  1. If it loses Sound Mixing, it will be a very bad sign regarding its chances of winning Best Picture.
  2. Almost 20 years later, Eminem finally performs his winning song at the Oscar stage. Pity it was censored in some parts (probably one of the reasons he didn't want to perform in 2003).
  3. No, I predicted it
  4. @Olympian1010 happy now?
  5. Calm down, it's been only 3 categories so far lol
  6. For sure it was a part of it, but look at the history of the category. More often than not they award more accessible films over the "artistic" ones.
  7. In my world Marriage Story would win Best Actor/Actress, but I'm happy that Phoenix and Zellweger are gonna win (Phoenix for his career, Zellweger because of her comeback). Are you gonna watch all of these before the ceremony? If so, good luck
  8. I had a positive reaction to The Irishman, but the more I think about that movie, the less I like. I would reevaluate it but it's 3 and a half hours long so... no About Parasite, I think there's a chance of a win under the current preferential ballot system, but it would be the first foreign film to win in 90+ years of history, so I'm skeptical.
  9. The Oscars are this sunday so it's finally time for my annual predictions post. While I correctly guessed most categories in the last few years, it's been quite some time that I don't predict the right Best Picture winner. Once again I'm not confident at all, but unlike last year I won't be picking the foreign film nominee, although Parasite deserves the big prize and I would be thrilled if it wins (1917 is good, but it's past time a foreign language film wins this). ["will win" is my prediction / "could win" is my alternate prediction / "should win" is my personal ranking from what I've watched / "shoud have been nominated" is a way to remember other notable work].
  10. Jesus, I found the "Breakthrough" song to be really terrible, but maybe it's a reflection of my dislike with this unbearable faith-based drama. This year's selection for this category is the worst in years, I wouldn't nominate any of these songs and it's a crime that "Glasgow" from Wild Rose wasn't nominated. I would say I'm fine with Elton winning another Oscar, though.
  11. While I like animated movies more than you, the category is kinda dreadful this year. "I Lost My Body" is really the best thing here, although "Missing Link" would also be a fine winner.
  12. "Memorable" was available on Vimeo for quite some time but it isn't anymore (probably because it's part of the annual "Nominated Short Films" selection that is showing in selected US theathers right now). Of the 15 short films nominated across the 3 categories, I didn't watch only one: the documentary "St. Louis Superman", which sadly isn't available anywhere.
  13. My ranking is very similar, but I thought the best was the one you didn't watch: 1. Memorable; 2. Kitbull; 3. Daughter (Dcera); 4. Hair Love; 5. Sister. I think Hair Love will win although we can all agree it's not really the best short here. Would prefer Kitbull (and given that it's produced by Pixar, it might have a shot).
  14. Turkey is at least better than Argentina and could upset any of the other teams on a good day (except maybe China). In group A, I wouldn't discard Dominican Republic so easily. I would say only Serbia and Japan are safe.
  15. My ranking would be almost the same, except that I will put The Edge of Democracy above American Factory and The Cave. Honestly I only watched the brazilian film this week because I didn't want to relive all those moments again. I think the documentary explained the situation quite well, although I don't really wanna watch anything on the subject matter for at least some years. Honeyland is a gem and I hope it wins, although I agree American Factory probably will - not only because Obama, but because the story feels more familiar for the voters compared to other nominees.
  16. This is by far my favourite out of that category, although we've seen similar stories before ("Operator" short film and danish feature "The Guilty" + Halle Berry-starred atrocity "The Call" a few years back). I like the others, but some of them rely too much in gimmicks that didn't feel natural for me. Granted, these are short movies, so filmmakers don't have a lot of time to convey all the things they want to show, but in the end I was disappointed by most of the nominees. My ranking would be: 1. A Sister (Une soeur), 2. Nefta Football Club, 3. The Neighbor's Window; 4. Saria; 5. Brotherhood.
  17. Don't know if this was posted here already, but the Para Table Tennis China Open "has been postponed due to the public health situation in some regions of China".
