Speaking about Ana Cristina, can the commentators please pronounce her last name correctly? They keep botching it left and right :p

I was going crazy watching the match and the commentator calling her Ana "Krishna", like the Hindu deity. It reminds me of how some gymnastics commentators used to call Flavia Saraiva as Flavia "Sarajeva" (almost like the city).

Yes, for some reason brazilians are incapable of pronouncing D, T and Rs like normal human beings :p eg. we're "argenchina".

Just like argentinians are incapable of pronouncing Y like a normal human being? :p

    Spoiler

Joking aside, Brazil is so huge that of course each region has a different accent/pronunciation.

It'll be blamed on Brexit, but the truth is it was a god awful song with god awful staging so it got the points that it deserved. :d

On the upside for fellow Brits, that poor performance should mean that we are saved the prospect of Olly Alexander being the main act at the BBC New Year's Eve concert.

I like Olly but that song simply wasn't good.

Approaching 100 days to go, my predictions for :BRA

(These are very possible medals! I believe that about 8 - 10 of these are not confirmed, added to about three that were not expected! I would bet 05 golds and 22 in total)

That would be great but I think it's a bit on the optimistic side (especially Judo, Gymnastics and Boxing). I think Brazil will have a similar performance to London 2012.

This was the last qualifying tournament, with only reallocations and bipartite invitations remaining.

44 NPCs have qualified (+ neutral and refugee athletes). :BRA :FRA :IRI :MEX :TUR :UZB all qualified 5 or more athletes.

  6. :BRA Judo announced ten judokas for the Paris Games:

    66kg- Willian Lima

    73kg- Daniel Cargnin

    81kg- Guilherme Schimidt

    90kg- Rafael Macedo

    100kg- Leonardo Gonçalves

    +100kg- Rafael Silva

    52kg- Larissa Pimenta

    57kg- Rafaela Silva

    78kg- Mayra Aguiar

    +78kg- Beatriz Souza

Cargnin, Macedo, Rafael Silva and Aguiar are back after Tokyo. 4th Olympics for Rafael Silva and Aguiar (who won the bronze medal in each of the three previous Games). Somewhat strange that they announced Rafaela Silva already given how close Jessica Lima was to her in the rankings, but I guess that being an Olympic champion played a big part in this choice.
