  1. They’re not cutting quotas to make way for gender equality. They’re doing it (at least the IOC) claims to save money. They think the reason cities don’t want to host is because there are too many athletes . Maybe, just maybe it’s the ridiculous demands of the IOC: personal greeters for every IOC members at the airport, 4/5 star lodging for all members, local/seasonal pastries to served at meetings, Coke products available at all times, etc.
  2. The idiot has opened its mouth again. Hahaha, what a fucking moron. Please keep pushing California further out of the Union, were better without half of these shity states.
  3. journalistic work of this quality? As in completely shit and made up?
  4. On this day next year, Americans will head to the polls to decide the future of our country. It will be one of the most important, and defining elections in our country’s history.
  5. You are completely right about Section 9. @bestmen makes a good point, but rules are rules. Maybe @KingOfTheRhinos wouldn’t even want to host who knows. We don’t even know of the Netherlands wants to host (personally, I prefer to different hosts to keep it interesting), and that’s up to @heywoodu, so let’s worry about these things once heywoodu makes his choice.
  6. I don’t like that I became the forum’s resident drug expert, but I also don’t hate it I don’t even take Advil or Tylenol, so it’d be a bit odd if I were doing any drugs in reality
  7. Well technically they have like 26 active users, just not of them are “active”
  8. Well, like Algeria, their behavior hasn’t earned them the contest. I can understand being frustrated, but threatening a boycott is a bit ridiculous (and definitely not something I’ve said before ?)
  9. Schedule 1 you mean. Stupid European
  10. I was sure that the Czech Republic was very religious. I mean they just gave a shit ton of land back to the Catholics, undoing the one actually good policy the communists had put in place. Public land shouldn’t be owned by the church, it should be owned by the people. Mountain Bikers shouldn’t have to ring the local bishop to ask for the ability to practice their sport on land the government had let them ride on for years.
  11. Well booing Trump is becoming the most American cheer. A lot more cheers this time too. Makes sense, UFC is more popular amongst conservatives.
  12. No, only Ireland, Ireland, and Ireland have hosted TISC . No, India hasn’t hosted. I think the US, Lithuania, Denmark, Ireland, Brazil, Mexico, and Tunisia have hosted (and maybe Great Britain too).
  13. I also noticed for the first time that Forest Gump Jr. is the kid in Sixth Sense (another on the all-time list)
  14. Well, when your a cinephile it’s hard to have a favorite . Plus, I forget so many whenever I do rankings . It would be my dream to write screenplays. If journalism or Public speaking doesn’t work out, then I might give Hollyweed a go.
  15. The US is interesting, I expected 40% Yes, 60% NO (down party lines more less). I guess the Muslims and Jews (who generally vote left) consider their faith much more important than white liberals. I mean I’m agnostic, but there are many more things more important in life than religion.
  16. It’s just hard to appreciate a song I can’t understand. I to give quite a few points to foreign language entries, but in the case I just love Riptide and Liquid Lunch too much. Here’s my personal voting everyone, forgot to post it earlier : 12 pts: I mean come on, one of the best songs of the decade 11 pts: Very under-appreciated . Absolutely beautiful. Great choice @Vektor. Loved it from the minute I heard it. 10 pts: This one grew on me. Totally didn’t expect it to be the Danish entry (I just used the playlist, so as too avoid making political decisions). Would have made @Wumo and @Agger day I think 9 pts: Great choice @heywoodu. Loved it from the minute I heard it (thought it was New Zealand at first). I just decided to award it a bit less than the others. Tone was perfect, lyrics were fun, and the voice had a good level of mastery. 8 pts: @Manulete Another great entry. This is one of three songs to have made my main playlist from this TISC 7 pts: (0 pts ) 6 pts: @Skijumpingmaster This is song is in my genre of preference, but it just didn’t have the wow quality of others. A good entry nonetheless. I fully didn’t expect it to get points, but it grew on me when it mattered. 5 pts: best performance by an Arabic song @amen09. I could tell it was from the Arab Spring and Tunisia right away ? 4 pts: @Griff88 unlike your voting, this song was not ass. The genre wasn’t my taste, but it definitely deserved points nonetheless. I agree with @Fly_like_a_don that the song punched under its weight (though I think the top 7-8 are correct) 3 pts: @Belle You submitted my childhood. Road trips with a Mamma Mia! CD. I knew all the words, but honestly, I like the cover more. Still the song deserves points. 2 pts: @IoNuTzZ For some reason I know this song well. Again, it just wasn’t as good as the top 6 or so, but another solid entry. 1 pt: @rybak I really liked this song, but in this case the language barrier killed you. As I said earlier, I enjoyed the risk you took. R1: (would have received 1 pt ?) @dcro Bold risk going with a instrumental song. I just couldn’t get myself to give it more points, though it fully deserved a better final ranking. R2: @Glen I know I haven’t given you a lot of points, but I love the songs you share. I eagerly await your annual entry. R3: @Fly_like_a_don Fully expected this song to be in my top 5, but in the end, it just didn’t click with me. Still very thankful that you shared your entry with us. R4: Qazakstan ?. Music video was a bit much for me. Surprising entry nonetheless. A big thanks to @Wumo and @Agger for hosting a wonderful, albeit quite gaffed, edition of the TISC. Completely enjoyed my time on this thread. Huge shoutout to all the participating juries. I love competing in this competition and learning through this cultural exchange. Honestly one of the best parts of the forum. Hope to see everyone participating again in the Spring. In closing, Spain 12
  17. My sister just finished watching Forest Gump for the first time. Man, I forget how good that movie is. Easily in my top 3 all-time. It’s pretty un-American that she hadn’t seen it yet. I should honestly be a requirement in schooling.
  18. I live in California mate, I might have it worse . In all seriousness, it’s a shame that you’re underpaid for your work. I can tell that you put in a ton effort, and don’t get a lot back. I completely understand how that feels since my parents are teachers in the US. They’re unpaid by thousands.
  19. Sports > bills
  20. #ForGlory I, in my at least 12 (rememberable) years of cheering for Team USA, have never once used that cheer. I’ve used quite a few, but never that one. It sounds like a dumb video game motto.
  21. I’m just saying that singling out Calgary is strange. That’s like saying, I hope Kamil Stoch gets booed in Wrosaw, but not Wroclaw. Or I hope Sun Yang gets booed in the Shanghai, but not Beijing.
