  1. I'm disappointed you're from a time where there was live TV.
  2. I am very much aware, I think I saw your name on a list of supercentenarians a while ago
  3. Isn't it usually live streamed on Facebook or something? That's such a shitty platform for live streams, it should be on the video.fil-luge.org platform or YouTube.
  4. Yeah, if you see a German name (either as name of an athlete or of a competition venue) you can pretty much bet your ass it's in Italy
  5. Turning mosquitos into elephants is not about how rich or popular something is, it's about turning something tiny (Vlhova's coach filming Shiffrin) into some sort of big deal. Before we go all NFL vs football (I'd prefer to watch NFL anyway), let's get back to the point and that is Magoni shouldn't be a dick and turn around his statements and Shiffrin's camp should shut up about this being a big deal. Back to skiing.
  6. I get that, but still...surely there are people who can speak somewhat ok but more importantly, actually give the vibe of following the sport? These commentators talk as if it's the first time ever they watch these sports and they've just quickly gone through the Wiki on it..
  7. I've heard of that, yes, but Americans are not to be taken serious when it's about sports...especially about their own sports They can and will blow it up all they want, I don't much care. Time and time again we see Americans are utterly addicted to 'turning mosquitos into a zoo full of elephants'
  8. I'm pretty annoyed by Magoni and the way he's making a 180 in what he's saying, going from 'admitting' it to basically denying the whole thing....because in the actual situation, I'm definitely more #TeamVlhova than #TeamShiffrin
  9. I think I'm too used to German and Dutch commentators, who are generally very well-informed in the sports I hear them in - and Belgian in case of cycling. Same goes for the few English commentators I regularly hear, like Martin Haven (bobsleigh, skeleton, motorsports) and Tim Singer (luge), who really do know what they're talking about instead of just mentioning someones split time and their world ranking. Then every single time events like this come around, I get disappointed by the level of commentators.
  10. And to complete this trio of posts: if you're gonna be training in public space, which I'm guessing both Vlhova and Shiffrin regularly do, you can be filmed. It's public space, get yourself a private mountain if you want to forbid someone to film you. What's next, forbidding to save video footage of races 'because otherwise it can be used to analyze my skier!'?
  11. Interesting choice of words from Magoni, barely a week after he basically said Shiffrin is the best in the world "and so of course we want to see how she is skiing" when talking about this whole 'espionage scandal'. At least it mostly seems to be a war between coaches instead of athletes, who for once seem to behave more grown-up
  12. I've seen around 100 runs of alpine skiing today and the times the commentator mentioned something like a mistake (other than obvious things like a DNF/fall) or something else 'technical' - like a decent commentator would do - can be counted on one hand. Same goes for the number of times he's mentioned any result someone ever had in, you know, the world outside of the Youth Olympics. I think I've heard him mention once that someone has raced in a Europa Cup race and once or twice that someone raced in a NorAm Cup race but that's about it. Don't these athletes race anywhere? (That's a rethorical question, obviously they do) Oh and the rare times he mentions a favourite, it's entirely based on the FIS ranking where for certain nations it's just much easier to get good points and so high rankings...it doesn't make someone a favourite.
  13. "But the green light is still on!" "The red light is on!" "And he goes over half a second faster!!!!" --> someone who was 28th or something in run 1 and so going half a second faster than number 29 is just not very interesting since the medals are - normally - far from being decided yet.
  14. Anyone else noticed how every few skiers someone is 'a powerful athlete who can make up time in the bottom!' who then goes on to follow the trend of his run and not make up time in the bottom?
  15. Adolescent, someone in puberty, I don't know. Also: please refrain from using the term Jurassic when it's not about an interesting theme park or about @phelps
  16. Battle of words on the topic of equestrian involving an American teenager and an ancient Croatian who's been following equestrian since the eohippus was still walking the Earth. popcorn.gif
  17. I watch a bit of equestrian once in four years and if the jumping is shown on Dutch TV that's with Dutch commentary, if it's only on a stream it's with no commentary. I've also never had the need to watch gymnastics with English commentary. There really isn't that much I need to watch with English commentary, luckily.
  18. Because I usually have 0 reason to watch alpine skiing with English commentary and both German and Dutch commentators use 'Einfädler'
  19. Apart from Victoria Demchenko, who sort of pretends to be never smiling but always seems to work very hard to appear in control of her smile when kinda joking around
  20. Thanks to the alpine skiing commentator, I learned a new English word https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straddle_(skiing) I had never in my life heard that be called any different than the German word "Einfädler"
  21. I forgot to post a new team, sorry for the extra work @Wumo (my 'new' team was supposed to be the old one so it doesn't matter in that regard)
