  1. To be fair, cross-country running also isn't a summer sport. Like cyclo-cross, it's basically a season-independent sport, almost by definition it can be done in any and all conditions. I don't think I'd go for it in the end, like @De_Gambassi said, it'd open up the way for lots and lots more and not sure that'd be a great idea.
  2. One of those things that make me think "I don't see why it'd be needed, but if it's there, I'd definitely enjoy it"
  3. Same for breaking, it definitely didn't fumble anything, it didn't really have a chance at all
  4. That would be fantastic. Mostly I just don't need the sidebar because it makes the experience less good by being distracting and in the way, but the main issue (for me, that is) is seeing content of all kinds of threads. I'm very glad this wasn't around during the Olympics yet, I would genuinely not have been able to enjoy Totallympics at all then. That was sometimes already somewhat difficult with the never-ending insistence of people to spoil results in threads of other sports, but the current sidebar would have made it very hard (and that would be a shame, because I definitely love and always will love Totallympics ). Anyhow, we'll see how this develops. And about the clubs: yes, you see the latest posts in the sidebar, but I don't want to see posts in the sidebar at all (and in the case of , the club isn't that active, so for weeks I've basically seen the same 2-3 year old posts). Seeing a changing poll or newly registered users or something, while not ideal to have it in a non-customisable sidebar, is at least less distracting than actual content so less of a problem. Again, all just my opinion, I can totally imagine other people - probably even a majority - have no issues whatsoever.
  5. No, we don't. I know this is even going to keep me away from the forum in the winter, when the winter sports are going on (which I know isn't important, but I find sad for myself ), because it's just unavoidable to see comments and replies in other threads. Might almost as well make it one massive chat room instead of having separate threads... Anyhow, something changed since last night it seems, the open thread is now at least wider (on desktop/laptop) and the sidebar takes relatively a bit less space, so that's....somewhat better, I guess? It should be a setting though, since I can definitely imagine some people find it useful or even nice, while others don't. I'm having this sidebar since joining the NED club right before the Olympics, and have found the presence of that bar highly irritating ever since (in such a way that, now that I realize it, I'll leave the club now that the Olympics are done for the sole purpose of having less of the sidebar)
  6. Thinking breakdancing 'changes the essence of the Olympics' is somewhat exaggerated, to be fair. Especially when you consider we already have an Olympic dancing competition that's widely accepted as being part of it (unfortunately), and is called dressage.
  7. Imagine if talking to the referee was actually punished in football, we'd only have 3x3 left as format
  8. Alright, thanks for the answer. It does make for uncomfortable reading though, and it's - to say the least - annoying to see the content of all the posts on the side, even of threads you specifically don't want to read yet. It gives for a sluggish feeling, it shows things one might not want to see and it makes the screen look way too full and unlogical, for lack of a better word. I honestly wonder how the designers of the software thought "yeah, that's a good idea". Of course I know it's not your fault, so I don't blame you, it's on the people who design the software we use, but like what seems to be a trend both in sports and in online design, yet another step downhill... Used it on a tablet as well earlier today, but there I quickly gave up and waited for the issue to be gone (not knowing yet it was by design) Edit: sorry for sounding harsh by the way, didn't mean to take my frustration out on you of course, so definitely don't take it personal
  9. Niewiadoma holds on and wins the Tour by...3 seconds?
  10. Oh oh, there goes some hope
  11. Niewiadoma is not giving up!
  12. I'd go for karate being significantly worse, since it felt so...negative. Like, a DQ for kicking too hard, all those kicks and punches that were - by design - more like 'almost hits' than actual hits, it felt more like a sort of dancing than actual fighting. Not to disrespect the athletes, I'm sure it's super tough to do, but for me as a viewer it really didn't feel like a sport where the participants were going all-out and for breaking I definitely did have that feeling (like in the men's final, where both athletes at the end were absolutely done in terms of energy left). I'm aware holding back is kind of part of karate as a sport, but that's also why I just didn't like it in the slightest
  13. @Sindo Maybe it's my laptop again but "Latest Posts around Totallympics" seems to be 'stuck' on the side, when opening a thread it stays there, so that the space for the actual thread is suddenly a lot smaller, which is visually rather...distracting (kind of like that thing on Wikipedia that's all the time asking which letter size you want) Is this just a mistake for which the solution is waiting a bit, or is it a setting that one can turn off in their personal settings or something? It wasn't there earlier today.
  14. Niewiadoma is breaking on the second to last climb Attack by Vollering, with Rooijakkers (who is 2 seconds ahead of her in the GC) in her wheel.
  15. Agreed. Which is why I'd like for demonstration sports to be there again, including real coverage and everything, since that would open things up a bit more for adding sports for one Olympics without people expecting it to stick around necessarily.
  16. If the definition of that is 'three people with a Totallympics account being in the same place and talking to each other', no But yeah, I'd go for this one with Sindo, Jan Linha and Pasolini being the first, since I wouldn't count rollerski races in Brazil where @brunamoura and I were talking with @Jesús as a Totallympics meeting, it was entirely outside of the scope of Totallympics after all
  17. Any idea why the U23 events are abbreviated with a B? I get the J for the U19 events, assuming it's J for Junior, but the B...?
  18. 8 years ago definitely more so than nowadays
  19. But you do realise it's in no way feasible to have it that way, right? Once a sport is added, it has a permanent place in the Olympics as long as the Olympics exist? We'd end up with a 6 week Olympics at some point in time.
  20. I'd honestly be surprised if more than 0,0001% of the French population know about the existence of this version of American football Edit: wait, that's about 68 people. Alright, that'd be exaggerated, I do think more than 68 people are aware of it
  21. Most Europeans really don't care. Like, at all. A very large majority might very vaguely know surfing is Olympic, but that's about it. Also, there's really not a 'European identity' in sports or anything, like Germans cheering for French against a South American team, or Norwegians cheering for Italians against an Asian team or something.
  22. So from a certain moment in time (now? 2000? 1960?) sports should not be added anymore, no matter if the world of sports changes?
  23. This sounds like something @Olympian1010 will be able to pull up a video or something on
