  1. Those are almost (ok, not entirely, but among the general public...yeah) as unknown in this corner of Europe mate
  2. Panama sounds oddly interesting, whereas I'd bet some money that Israel is basically just competing with Americans who happen to have easily gained Israeli nationality (and might not even really have any significant connection to it)?
  3. Just watched some as well and oh wow, that field is hilariously tiny
  4. Sure, but it sounds so silly in a fun way to go to Twitter with the specific goal of insulting someone. I wonder, with a pitchfork or torch in hand?
  5. Just happened to have come across World Tag Chase, which actually looked quite fun and absolutely athletic Would be a cool one to have as a demonstration sport.
  6. Since I assume IFAF is aware they're a rather niche organization and sport, so getting any kind of exposure is super important, I'm going to assume matches will be available to watch live on YouTube?
  7. And that's the stage win for Vas! @Vektor
  8. I do think they will not add it, but would not be super surprised. Swimming makes for super easy 'mega stars': there's always gonna be someone with several gold medals and for the masses someone with several golds on their neck are tragically easy to see as a bigger star than someone with 1 gold medal (in a sport in which one can only win 1). Mega stars bring people, and thus money. Still think the chance is bigger of IOC not accepting it though.
  9. Wow, I had no idea about this. Just looked it up, watched a super young Michal Martikan in 1996 and damn that course looks amazing!
  10. That goes for several sports though. For example for rowing one needs a 2km long flat and straight part, which isn't a river, and which can be difficult to have anywhere nearby. Meanwhile, it's a sport that a super low number of people can even afford to do, since simply training in the sport is already massively expensive (thousands of euros even for a single scull that can be somewhat decent).
  11. Are there also reasons other than 'I dont like this sport, remove it'? This sounds like a step towards the ancient Olympics and at some point only having the stade and 1 wrestling competition left
  12. Wouldn't that basically just be an eight with four men simply moving the oars at a heartrate of 90, and four women rowing their lungs out because they do need to keep up?
  13. They do that every four years apparently and it always gets shot down, as it should Keep all that stuff and add whatever in the sport's own world championships, fine, but stop exaggerating in the Olympics..
  14. Just to clarify and take away some potential worries: the injuries are mostly things like some bruises and a black eye and such, according to themselves nothing worrying, luckily
  15. And a mixed field hockey event besides the current two tournaments
  16. Genuine question, since you normally seem to be posting along quite normally in regular sports threads: are you perhaps on something? I mean, almost sounding like seeing the US as a victim in the world of sports, that's.....special, to say it mildly. As I think almost every non-American would also like to know: Catelyn who, by the way?
  17. Much as I'd be in favour of this, this can (or, should) only be possible if heptathlon has been replaced with decathlon in international competition for at least 1-2 full Olympic cycles. Since it's such a massively different event (and not just a shorter or longer version of the same thing), extra adaptation time would be needed.
  18. Are we back in the 70's or what?
  19. I could go there, Apeldoorn is in one of my main cycling laps (the bit longer ones, 70k or so), but...never mind, way too hot yesterday and tomorrow it's time to get back to work Dutch NOS shows 1 match a day and Ziggo is live from 18.00u, but that's not gonna be of much help for you I'm afraid.
  20. A whopping 2.07 points on a total of well over 400. No more women's basketball then, I fear, considering even with a fluke in the final the dominant team won with an average margin of well in the double digits. Not defending diving or table tennis here, by the way, just saying it's certainly not less competitive than Olympic basketball. Talking about not competitive: we can certainly let go of the women's 4x400m
  21. Like you chose not to rant against me about the 'football' thing, I'll choose not to rant against you about the other cycling points But this one: yeah, definitely. At the very least the individual pursuit, that should absolutely never have been eliminated. The 1k is great as well, because it's without a doubt the track cycling event where athletes go the deepest, the only event where a majority of participants literally can't stand on their own legs after the finish, but the pursuit is better I think in terms of competition.
  22. This is too obvious mate
  23. But obviously the principle is the same, a decision like that should not simply be because 'country A gets too many medals' if in a sport with 2 medals another country is just as dominant.
