Qualification Tracker

Test

  1. That's not the point. The point there is that it's an inherently unfair medal event, where athletes have an actual (and in many cases nearly impossible to overcome) disadvantage based on another medal event. That is just nonsense. First of all one's participation in one medal event should not even depend on another medal event, but one should definitely not start with a time disadvantage in a medal event and have the qualifier for that be a medal event in itself. It's kind of like if in modern pentathlon we'd give out medals after the first three events and then also separate medals for whoever finishes the laser run first (using the standings to decide the start orders and time gaps).
  2. That's less important, but athletes do need to know what their next 4-year cycle is going to look like. For some sports and countries it's already barely two years to go until qualifying really gets going.
  3. Oh I agree. I mean, I do strangely enough like them at swimming world championships as a fun intermezzo, some massive testosterone bombing in the pool for a bit Thing is, there they are not in anythings way: world championships in sport X can have all the events they want, it's not in the way of other sports after all. At the Olympics that would be different. Same as why I don't mind the biathlon pursuit being in the biathlon world championships, but it is horrendous that it's a separate Olympic event.
  4. No, they should not. Swimming has way enough medals, they do not need a single extra one. They can have the 50's if they take away others...
  5. Oh wow, that is actually quite ridiculous. You seriously can't do that to athletes, not even knowing yet what they can or can not qualify for two years before the Olympics Trust me, the stress of qualifying alone is more than enough to drive an athlete and their surroundings mad, let alone if you don't even know the exact events yet..
  6. They better hurry then...time is very much ticking.
  7. And apparently World Aquatics has also made it's 4-yearly bullshit request of having the 50m's added....which apparently but luckily has once again been denied.
  8. Plus it simply makes it easier to see if a sport finds a good international audience. World Cups are nice, but just not anywhere near a good reference in that regard. Sports climbing is a great example I think: most people, including sports fans, didn't even know it really existed until Tokyo, and now I've read so many positive reactions on it ever since its debut.
  9. Since the next Olympics are in 2028, and of course by now the program is entirely finalized I assume (since athletes start their new Olympic cycle immediately): is there a clear list of events that were in Paris and won't be in LA, and events that weren't in Paris and will be in LA?
  10. Which would be too bad, because the program should be somewhat flexible and there definitely should be room to try new sports here and there. The core program really isn't changing that fast at all, the edges are more...fluid, for lack of a better word. Which I think is fine. Sometimes it will be things we like, other times it will be things we don't really like.
  11. It is beyond me that 'swimming doesn't need 136 medal events' isn't on the top of this list
  12. Oh yeah, Tebogo's gold. Would have liked it anyway, but especially after his mother passed away I really wished for it. And his awesome performance in the 4x400 was amazing, I had no idea that was coming Talking about it: South Africa getting 4x100m silver and so Akani Simbine finally having a big medal after so many 4th and 5th places (again in Paris) nearly got me through the roof man
  13. Damn, I thought it was simply a matter of either Chiles or Barbosu getting the bronze, but this is even sadder. Literally everyone involved lost here
  14. Especially the presence of fans, man I missed that, it's been.....83 years? Hmm, 6 apparently, but it felt like forever after the quiet Games in Tokyo and the even quieter Games in Beijing, where athletes said it obviously did not feel like Olympics at all. Finally we were back in full swing and it was awesome
  15. Yeah taking stuff to Russia of all places was dumb I mean, it's quite normal stuff, but you know some countries are different, so come on
  16. I doubt the other teams are alcohol-free in their lives or something
  17. Oooh damn, what a massive blunder instead of what would have been an epic shot
  18. I wouldn't call this 'moments', but more of an overall thing: the scenery in Paris. Seriously, there have been nice venues and backdrops in most Olympics, but I genuinely find it hard to think of anything more iconic than Paris 2024 in terms of scenery. The Eiffel Tower always in the background, beach volleyball even being right at the foot of it, the cycling road races finishing there as well, and so on. Same thing for everything that was at Versailles, that was the most majestic background I can remember in the Olympics (ok, I'm not ancient like some others here, but still ). The indoor stadiums and so on were nice, but for me they're never too special in any country or city (more or less the same), but the outside events....yeah, no idea which city is ever hoping to truly top that.
  19. Slightly late but I wish you a fun Olympics and hope you enjoy Paris 2024 with us
  20. And to the question in the thread title: Yes I'm afraid so, sorry
  21. Yes, definitely looking forward to the classic alpine skiing battle of vs next season.
  22. What was up with Kucera yesterday, injured? No way he'd have qualified by lifting a total that's under the CJ of most others
  23. The least adrenaline-filled event to close out the track program, right
  24. Honestly I think my favourite part about the breaking at the Olympics was the reactions of angry people with foam on their mouths on social media
  25. That's really just an opinion. "It is not fun to look" can't be a reason to not be Olympic. I find modern pentathlon, all of the indoor shooting, rhythmic gymastics, artistic swimming or most sailing disciplines (everything with boats) just not at all fun to watch, but that doesn't mean it should not be Olympic, since it's just my opinion and that means...well, nothing
