  1. she's never gone missing...too much publicity on her case to make her disappear like any non-famous girl. but she's in a lot of troubles for sure. I doubt she's gonna have the chance to compete on the international scene anymore. I also read that her brother has been jailed, too...but I'm not so sure it's true.

  6. by the way, yesterday the draw of the group stage of the next U-21 European Championships (Olympic qualifier, 3 places up for grabs) was held: Group A Georgia Portugal Belgium Netherlands Group B Romania Spain Ukraine Croatia Group C Czech Republic England Germany Israel Group D Norway Switzerland France Italy the top 2 in each group advance to the quarterfinals (teams from group A will meet teams from group C; teams from group B will meet teams from group D), then semis and the finals (under normal circumstances, the Bronze Medal match will be the Olympic Qualification's last chance; if only one between FRA and ENG would eventually make the top 4, no Bronze Medal match will be played). but...as France are already qualified to the Olympic Games as Host Nation and England can't qualify because they can't play under the GBR Flag at the Games, if necessary (= both FRA and ENG making the top 4), there will be a playoff to determine the last qualified team between the eligible teams eliminated at the quarterfinal stage.
  7. Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia...they really are all on heavy doping programs (they are all trained and managed by European people without any sort of moral value, just taking advantage of the desperate conditions of those people). it's only WA that doesn't want to open this Pandora's Vase.

  11. OK, replace Rowing with all team sports, with Fencing, Taekwondo, Wrestling (Karate, but it's no longer an Olympic sport) and all those events with 10/12/16 max places in a world with at least 20/30 competitive teams (and 50+ athletes capable of going close to a medal in the individual sports). the point is that we can't take quota places away from athletes capable of winning a medal and replace them with people competing only according to the De Coubertin's spirit. I have nothing against universality, but, as I wrote before, not at the expense of the quality of an Olympic event. Sports like Athletics, Swimming, Triathlon, Shooting, Tennis, Table Tennis, Sailing (some classes only), the same Rowing (single and double sculls)...even the Equestrian disciplines...they can all have even 20% of the starting field below the average and they don't lose anything, but you just can't have a team event already knowing the top 4 out of 6 in each group of the preliminary round because you only have 8 good teams out of 12 (or an individual sport where you already know the medallists in advance because half the participants are not on the same level of the opponents)...you just make the most of the tournament useless.
  12. I agree that we disagree. Frankly, having an African team (especially among the women) doesn't add anything to the tournament...actually, it does add an unwatchable game per day and makes the group less competitive (only 5 teams competing for 4 QTFs spots). the same, if you have a Pan-American team other than USA, BRA and ARG or Asian teams other than JPN and IRI (men) or JPN and CHN, sometimes but not regularly KOR (women). it's not my fault (or any strong team's fault) if most competitive teams come from the same zone. I just want to watch a tournament with good games and strong teams only. point. and as I wrote before, it's only my personal need. I know that all the athletes in the world put their max effort in what they do and they would deserve a chance. But not at the expense of the quality of the Olympic tournament.
  13. Mixed Team Junior 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Gold: India 2 Silver: China 1 Bronze: India 1
  14. no, it doesn't fall down because it's that "average" group of athletes that makes the early rounds of a competition interesting... I'm gonna make an example to explain this: take Rowing...except for single sculls, we only have up to 15 boats per discipline. and among those 15 boats are included continental representatives for non competitive continents, repechage regatta (where no country already qualified in other boats can participate and with very limited quota places for any participating Nation) ensuring to spread participation all around the globe. In the end, only those 7/8 boats coming from the top spots of the previous year's world championship are going to race for a place in the final/the medals, the remaining crews are tons of seconds behind. this makes the heats, repechage round and semifinals basically useless and cut the interest for the sport down to the medal races only, meanwhile we normally have global championships where is very difficult even making the top 12 in most cases and all the early rounds are worth watching. and it's the same for almost every sport/discipline with limited entries. I only agree with a pre-selection being the National championships in each "powerhouse", having as much as possible only a few representative per Nation (if not only 1 in most disciplines) in each event, but watching a non competitive athlete/team in a small starting field only because of "inclusiveness", no thanks. p.s. of course my POV is the spectator on the couch's, not the athlete's...I understand all the different situations, but still, I have to support my own interest...
