  1.  Not much to disagree with by the the last two posters. I too have started to get a tad concerned. Not just with the games but actual qualification. I think we will do well to get one more qualifier and I’d be really happy with two. I am still not so sure about the women’s 4 in rowing and it’s unlikely any other boat is a contender. Rachel Darragh is now outside a qualification spot in Badminton. Only last October she seemed a certainty and the men’s doubles were in a quota spot too. There will be no qualifiers in Pentathlon, Tristhlon or Judo. Still an outside chance of a shooter qualifying. We really a few swimmers to at least hit the B standard at least or we may have to decline a relay quota. I just think that this Spring has been a bit underwhelming as regards qualifiers.

At the moment, two Irish male swimmers have the OQT. Granted, I don' see Dan Wiffen putting together a couple of quick hundreds (!), but technically, they have two qualified male swimmers, and are entitled to two for relays. so I think include them until and unless they self exclude.

Who is the one besides Wiffen? Fannins time doesnt count for Swim Ireland and Ferguson only made the OCT.

Men’s and Women’s 4x100m medley relay teams have qualified as of this morning’s heats at the World Champs!

May beed another male swimmer to swim an OCT/OST to allow us accept the men’s quota though

That may not be a given. Bar Ferguson none of the others were close to an OQT at the Worlds. Only one chance left.

But we can definitely count the womens relay as two more quotas.

Or put it this way - most male boxers who qualify for the Olympics will only need two wins to medal (Most will not have a round of 32 fight, so win last 16, win QF  = bronze)

About 8 are there already in most classes. These guys are two wins from a medal right now.

The poor saps at QF1 are possibly 7-8 consecutive wins away right now *

    * (ignoring SF and F in the QF1 which have no effect on qualification/medalling)

Then the lads that lose in the QF at QF1 may have another 4 fights at the Second qualifier

But the lads already there had to win a number of fights to get there (maybe not the Australians)

On better news, I think Miller should just wait official confirmation, but she got a second spot for Canada in the individual event, with :IRL McGing now being first under the line.

Also :CUB  :DOM  :LAT  &. :USA should get confirmation of spaces for the individual events.

But no real chance of a quota for McGing?

both rugby 7 teams, one hockey team and within a spit of a second hockey team is unknown riches in team sports terms for Ireland, and absolutely wonderful, especially given the dominance here of non-Olympic team sports

For lads like me that started following the Olympics in the 70s, the fact we are now qualifying in team sports is riches beyond belief. Great days even if I am starting to run out of Olympics to look forward to. 🙁

Well there is good news and bad news. Rest of the squad is as expected.

Grainne Walsh has to win an Olympic medal now. You can't get picked ahead of two world champions including the one who beat both of the world finalists last year and not medal.

I have to say I'm dissapointed. I feel great about Broadhurst's or O'Rourke's medal hopes and not very good about Walsh's. I do hope I'm proven wrong.

I hate that to an extent I will root against her but I was semi relieved when Dean Walsh lost during European games and I suspect I will find myself in the same frame of mind with Grainne Walsh.

An interesting note with this squad is apart from the Tokyo Olympians. We haven't picked anyone who won a European or World championships medal in 2022. (Sweeney, Fryers, Broadhurst, O'Rourke, Desmond, Dossen, Eagleson).

Is this accurate? It’s 7 weeks until the qualifying tournament and we haven’t even named a team for the Strandja tournament. The IABA only announced the training squad three days ago so it seems senseless to me to announce the OQT team 2 days later.

Bro, Get your hopes up for the world cup series qualifiers. There are a couple like pommel and rings where the standard required to qualify will be ridiculously high but some of them are definitely attainable. Like I wouldn't pick us to get any of them but we will be in the shake up. Also on review I think Russia won't be allowed at Europeans so that all-around quota is not quite as but still mostly out of the question. There are five or so gymnasts between Halle Hilton and a reallocated quota. It's not impossible if some of them qualify through other means but Hilton getting an actually quota herself is much more likely than picking up a reallocated one.

We seem to be looking at different badminton rankings but I'll believe you and yeah I probably should have put Rachael Darragh down as a safe qualifier.

The men’s doubles were in a qualifying spot as recent as October yet despite seeming to be doing well in getting to QF of tournaments fell out of the top 16.

It was a terrible week. we sent a big team and ended up with just 1 quota and even that is in the weight we probably wouldn't prefer. I think 58kg and +80kg looked more possible two weeks ago.

I lost count how many matches/rounds we lost in the last 10 seconds. mostly in last 2-3 seconds. I know it happens in this sport but it happened A LOT. there is something wrong with the team. most of them were in terrible shape, I assume changing the coaching system few weeks ago had a very result.

Barkhordari got robbed of his chance in the Final GP by those cheaters but he got lucky here. very lucky. he simply walked into the final without even throwing a leg! both his QF and SF opponents were Iranians they simply withdrew (coach's order) and he just had to win one match to qualify.:facepalm:still not a sure thing if he goes to Paris. I believe there will be some trials between him and those other guys who withdrew today

I'm somehow glad someone else took the 58kg quota. (and not Woolley) at least this is easier to accept.

now the question is who is going to the Asian QT. we had never been there since 2008. I assume 68kg is out of the picture since our #1 and #2 failed the drug test earlier this year (which is still a mystery what happened to them)

What did Woolley ever do to you?

It really wasn't. They got the points during that advantage. Being held up over the line and an astonishing last 37 phases where the difference. It was bitterly disappointing, but it wasn't a choke. Or else the word choke has no real meaning.

If thee was a choke it was in the first 20 minutes.again. Grand Slam match v England..por fist 20 mins where we went 6.0 dow, South Africam match...poor fist 20 minues with lineout in severe bother and finally on Saturday...13 0 down after another poor start. IAew we just poor starters or does neveres hit us at start? The vthree big games this year and we tank in the first quarter. Definitely a pattern.
