  1. Vietnam has almost 100 million people. In a huge country like this, it baffles me that the only sport to have decent chances at an Olympic medal doesn't receive enough funding to test athletes, apparently.
  2. It is not. *Currently* Russia has only qualified through the all-around World Cup series. The apparatus WC series has not been concluded yet and the quotas have not been announced/accepted by the NOCs yet. If Russia declines the apparatus WC quota, then they will have only one gymnast qualified through the all-around WC series and could, theoretically, still accept the quota from the European Championships. Italians are anxious and eager for the continental quota, I know, but it depends on whether Russia will choose to take it or not.
  3. You're counting one extra quota for Uzbekistan earned at the Asian Championships, but this is wrong. The quotas were awarded to and , actually -- and you got them right. Also, the men's team has been announced: Giarnni Regini-Moran, Joe Fraser, James Hall, and Max Whitlock.
  4. Omar Mohamed. And Uche Eke qualified for Nigeria. No idea. I'll look for information about it.
  5. and added Olympic quotas. It's the first time Nigeria has qualified in any discipline of gymnastics.
  6. Still no word from FIG. We'll probably not have any official confirmation until June 7. By then, all of the quotas from the continental championships will have been distributed in artistic gymnastics, so all that would be left for FIG to decide is whether they will hold the Doha World Cup or not. But I don't think anything official will surface at least until June 14, that's when the Pan Am rhythmic and trampoline championships will have ended.
  7. Here: https://twitter.com/thegymterdotnet Also, keep an eye on the South African gymnastics federation website. They usually post full results of important meets. @JoshMartini007 might be interested too.
  8. Nah, it's to be expected. Of course, one can question whether his decision to switch to Albania was a fair move or not, but Russia was determined not to support him anymore, so he had nothing to lose. Besides, he had never been very successful in Russia. His best result until he switched to Albania was one single bronze medal at the World Cup series. As an Albanian, not only he added another bronze medal at the World Cup series to he résumé, he also won the pommel horse gold medal at the 2020 Europeans, so he's kind of high profile now. He could even become the first-ever gymnast to go to the Olympics with a wildcard and still make it to one of the finals. Maybe even a medal if the final is as crazy as the one at the 2021 Euros was.
  9. Zeina Ibrahim qualified with a decent score, on par with the ones who qualified at the World Championships. Naveen Daries also qualified, but with a very low score. Apparently, she fell once in evert apparatus. I really though had it in the bag for the second quota, but I was wrong. Too bad. Both and had already qualified gymnasts at the World Championships. Too bad for Algeria, Nigeria and Cameroon, but hopefully these nations will not get discouraged.
  10. I usually never come to this topic because I get easily disgusted, but now that I'm here, I have to ask: accusation without any sort of supporting evidence would not be categorized as, or akin to, a crime per se? False reports or accusations of rape eventually lead to the prosecution of those who falsely claimed to be the victims. Shouldn't it be the same here? Isn't it common sense? Or are we simply going to ignore this as part of the political game and move on as if he has every right to do it?
  11. FIG has been silent for months now. One of the "inside" persons told me that it will probably be held in late June, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
  12. Yes, but my point was about women's artistic gymnastics, not men's. In men's artistic gymnastics, with Larduet out, qualifies instead. In women's artistic gymnastics, since dropped out of the Games, qualifies. Now, if also drops out, qualifies, but the gymnast might be injured now, so is the next one in line.
  13. It just occurred to me that there might be a chance of Meg Ryan qualifying even if North Korea suddenly decides to compete. A few days ago, someone asked Manrique Larduet, from Cuba, how his preparation was going. He replied that he's not training and will not go to Tokyo, despite having qualified. Cuba didn't send any gymnasts to the artistic, rhythmic and trampoline Pan Ams that will take place in Brazil in two weeks. So, at this point, there's absolutely no reason to believe that Cuba is planning to send Marcia Videaux to the Olympics. Larduet would have been their best shot at a medal, and even then he would be a dark horse at best. Videaux has no chance of getting a medal, so why send her at all now? Now, if both and fail to send female gymnasts to Tokyo, this means that and would qualify. But the Georgian girl is injured, if I'm not mistaken, so it could open up a chance for to qualify. We'll all know how it will go soon, hopefully.
  14. Well, they voted for that genocide, so this is what they get. I've barely left home in the last 13 months because those stupid a******s who voted for Bolsonaro keep flooding the streets and spreading the virus. What can you expect from them? And you know that most Brazilians are too dumb/stubborn to reflect about their bad choices, so they will blame everything and everyone but themselves and the one who they chose to represent them.
  15. Vaccination is still slow around here, overall, and it wildly varies among the different parts of the country. For example, a city 15 minutes away from Rio has vaccinated all of their teachers and professors, but vaccination for teachers and professors who live in the city of Rio had been suspended. Only next week it will restart, and I hope to receive my first shot in around three weeks. Needless to say, the general public is not too happy about athletes getting vaccines, so they're keeping this as low profile as possible.
  16. FIG released a statement on their website about introducing changes to the qualification system for 2024. I hope that the first change is that only nations not qualified otherwise would be eligible for a quota at the Oceania Championships. Seriously, this has mostly been Australian Championships with two "invited" guests from New Zealand: one in women's trampoline and one in men's artistic gymnastics. It's almost a miracle that New Zealand managed to qualify a male gymnast, in the end.
  17. I don't get it. Technically, the Italian singer is pretty bad. The song is catchy, but Switzerland definitely should have won.
  18. Apparently, jumps ahead of for the fourth best non-qualified time in the 4x100 medley relay. I didn't see that coming!
  19. Brazil's time is actually 3:45.52 from the latest trials.
  20. First full team announced: Women's team: Murakami Mai, Hatakeda Hitomi, Hiraiwa Yuna, Sugihara Aiko. Ashikawa Urara earned an individual spot.
  21. Such a pointless "continental" event woth only two nations participating, and very questionable results with Australia qualifying ahead of New Zealand by 0,1.
  22. Nope. He wouldn't have missed the chance to put "Olympic champion, 1976" in his signature.
  23. I believe his father is a Brazilian. He went to the US to work as a coach and decided to live there. EDIT: Yes, I was right. Besides, I found a newspaper article with very nasty charges against him. Ouch. I'm curious about the results of the investigation.
  24. Ok, this is turning into a monologue, but here we go. The lists of gymnasts who will participate at the Pan American Championships have been released. No big surprises here, but with the nominative lists I can at least make a slightly better prediction. Women's Olympic quotas: 99,99% chance 50% chance 40% chance Rebeca Andrade is the clear favorite here, but since everybody else from Brazil but Flávia Saraiva is also eligible for the quota, only a major upset would prevent Brazil from obtaining one of the quotas. I expect Magistrati to get the second quota, but maybe López might surprise and contend for the spot. Now, for the medals in event finals, I expect Dominici and the aforementioned gymnasts to earn most, if not all, of the medals. The other ones with a chance of getting medals are Pena, Campos, Palacios and Santi. I was impressed with the girls at the 2019 Pan American Games. I sincerely hope they qualify to one of the finals. It's a shame will not participate. I know Danusia Francis has already qualified to the Olympics, but she could win a medal here. Bummer. Men's Olympic quotas: 95% chance 40% chance 40% chance 10% chance Whittenburg should qualify easily, but Bock and Guimaraes could also surprise. Anyway, it's safe to assume that one of the quotas will go to the US. For the second quota, at least on paper, it should be a fierce battle between Sepulveda and Calvo. Soares has an outside chance, but he would have to perform on the same level he performed at the 2020 American Cup. Basically, a perfect competition and no mistakes. Mayol would need major mistakes from the other gymnasts to have a chance. Not sure if any of the guys can surprise. The event finals should be interesting with lots of gymnasts fighting for the medals.
