Dolby got a reaction from canadafan2024 in Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 News
After Zika, Covid and bed bugs we have found the new reason because of which Olympics are going to be cancelled. Brace for 3.5 years of updates on how Trump's X policy or Y statement will result in cancellation of LA Games.

One suggestion. Reserve the first post for qualification details. PDF/Overview/Important dates, whatever format everyone agrees on. Personally, I see this change as a positive, as it reduces the clutter and athletes/fans anyway think more on the line of 4 year Olympic cycle rather than year.

Neeraj Chopra! Best Indian athlete ever! In athletics, we used to struggle to qualify, now Silver feels like a loss. And you won Silver on a night where you were struggling, looking for that extra few meters.

When we won the Bronze in Tokyo, I was overwhelmed by emotion that finally I have seen Indian team win an Olympic medal. Post that, we have seen many ups and downs. There was doubt creeping up in me, was Tokyo an aberration? Coming into Olympics, I had very low hope that we will win a medal. Our first 3 games reinforced the belief. But then, we showed up. First we matched Belgium, then we exorcised our demons and defeated Australia (a win which was as memorable as any medal). The performance in these 2 matches gave us hope. Then when we went down to 10 men against GB, I thought, here we go again but boy was I wrong. The way we defended in that match was insane. After that match, I didn’t care if we medalled or not. I was proud of my team. And they didn’t let me down in the Semis as well. They gave everything they had but still came short. We lost on a golden opportunity but it didn’t matter. We were among the best. The whole mood in Indian contingent (& supporters) has been real bad since yesterday. Unlike me who didn’t believe that we would win a medal, these men came not for 4th place or Bronze or Silver. They came for Gold. They must have been devastated. But, they picked up themselves and won the bronze. They lifted the spirits of all Indian sports fans. In India, Hockey is not just a sport but an emotion. When we were under British rule, it was Hockey where we could defeat them. After independence, Hockey was one of the few things where we excelled. Now that we are much better in other sports, economically, once again it is Hockey which has given us relief.
And special shout out to captain cool Harmanpreet and the LEGEND SREEJESH. Indian Hockey won’t be same without him. End of an era.

Thanks. I was asking because Katzberg had almost a full series of “on purpose fouls” in the men’s hammer throw final after he blasted out to a 84.12m effort in the opening round.

One of them might have been deliberate but most were genuine foul throws wherein he lost balance.

But he was struggling. He had 5 foul throws. Its just his class that the 1 valid throw was enough to get Silver.

Congrats on the silver!
Although I’m sure you and the rest of India were hoping for a gold, there’s no shame in losing to a 92.97m. 89.45m is definitely not struggling though, he was just barely off his PB today

Dolby got a reaction from hckošice in Wrestling at the Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
Almost all wrestlers are usually 2-3 kg over the limit. They dehydrate their body to remove as much water as possible to reduce their weight. After they pass the weigh-in, they try and regain the water and strength.
This is an old article which tries to explain the lengths to which wrestlers go to make weight.

Wrestling switched to 2-day format not long ago. So, previously in the 1 day format, you played all matches on the same day and there was only 1 weigh-in. And as @MHSN said if a player was failing the weigh-in on 2nd day, they would declare the player injured and bank the Silver medal/5th place.

There are reports that it is not allowed. Unless you are injured in match and have forfeited the match by injury, you have to attend the second weigh-in.

We could have won. We should have won. But, it was not to be. Now go on and defend the Bronze.
No regret. No sorrow. No repentance. No grief.

Thats 2 times in 3 Olympics that an Indian female wrestler lost due to injury in QF.

This win is even more sweet because we had lost to Romania in World Team Qualifiers for Tokyo Olympics. Historic win for the team.

And our streak of having atleast one SF in each BWF World Championship/Olympics continues. Last time we didn’t have one was in 2010 Paris World Championships.

So? None of the teams in Group A has been super impressive and I don't see any reason why we should dread or favour one team over others.

I think Totallympics was started around London Olympics. Atleast I found the site then.
