  1. There are plenty of nations that will be making their debut in certain sports. Dominican Republic, Palestine, Qatar, Chinese Taipei and Zimbabwe qualified for the first time ever in equestrian, for example. New sports (golf, rugby) and new nations (Kosovo and South Sudan) shouldn't count here.
  2. Fiji gets a table tennis player for the first time ever. Australia qualifies 4 (2+2) while New Zealand qualifies in men's after defeating Vanuatu. I wonder if New Zealand will accept that quota, their player lost easily to Australians... It would be sad for Vanuatu if they keep it. They are quite unlucky in this qualifications. They wasted a big chance to qualify in football after losing to Fiji on penalties. They also have a boxer that is good enough to be the best in Oceania, but Asia and Oceania have been merged after 2012...
  3. Not yet, but you can see the candidates here http://portlandflag.org/2015/06/09/23-finalists-for-new-fiji-flag/ All of them are much better than the current one.
  4. Just horrible... Well, at least Fiji will change its flag in a few months.
  5. These countries are entered for the African championships (and Olympic qualification). Algeria Angola Cameroon Cote d'Ivoire Djibouti Egypt Ghana Kenya Libya Morocco Mozambique Namibia Nigeria Sao Tome and Principe Senegal Seychelles Somalia South Africa Sudan Tunisia
  6. Yeah, and I remember OlympicIRL saying that it was very painful to watch the whole men's 50 km walk race just to get 4th place in the end. This is at least some kind of redemption.
  7. Robert Heffernan should also get a medal. In 50km walk.
  8. I've read somewhere that people from our judo federation claimed that Matić has secured qualification. Though, I really don't know how can they be so sure about that... As for sailing, it will be a disaster if we don't qualify in men's RS:X. Looks like we are going against for 2 available quotas. Couldn't be any easier than that. Good news came last week to our women's 49er FX crew as our main opponent Ireland qualified on reallocation because there was no African crew. Looking at the results of the last year's World Championships, Ninčević/Dujmović are now the best European crew which is not qualified so far. Finland will probably be our main competition.
  9. Liberia apparently qualifies in men's 100 meters. Even though their runner is listed as American at IAAF site, according to this he switched to Liberia http://road-to-rio.com/
  10. That would be so sad. Perhaps Escobar was too tired in this race after competing in single sculls too. What a stupid decision to compete in both events.
  11. Brazil, Cuba and Chile in women's doubles, but all of them will have to choose. El Salvador/Argentina/Uruguay in doubles and Argentina/Paraguay/Peru in singles have a chance for reallocation (ARG can't get both, of course, but they are the only one of these that is guaranteed a quota).
  12. "Brazil! Brazil! Brazil! Cuba! Chile! Chile! Chile! Chile! Brazil! Brazil! Brazil! Cuba! Cuba!" Brazil, Mexico and Cuba qualify in men's doubles. Brazil and Mexico will already have to choose. Venezuela/Ecuador and Venezuela/Paraguay are looking for reallocations. Venezuela is guaranteed to receive one of them, whatever happens. Also one of Ecuador/Paraguay will qualify, but not both.
  13. Okay, this must be the worst live stream I have ever watched. Seems like they have one or two cameras for a rowing competition and the announcer is screaming like a crazy person.
  14. Group winners should easily qualify since it doesn't seem like Canada and Germany/France could be threats.
  15. Bermuda, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Chile, Trinidad and Tobago qualify in women's single sculls. This means that Brazil's host quota will also be reallocated to European qualifiers. Well done and Looking at the provisional qualifiers in single sculls and final starts lists for double sculls, we are guaranteed to have at least 2 reallocations in men's events and at least 1 in women's events.
  16. Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay qualify in men's single sculls. Brazil qualifies so the host nation quota in men's single sculls will be reallocated to the European regatta. 1st and 2nd nations from B final might have a chance to qualify on reallocation. Ecuador and Paraguay should be the best in B final.
  17. I guess it will be formally rejected eventually as New Zealand doesn't have a depth in men's RS:X and they are not a kind of nation that would send anyone to the Olympics just to fill in the numbers. At the 2015 RS:X Worlds they had a sailor (not JP Tobin) that finished in 60th place. They didn't have anyone at this year's Worlds.
  18. Based on the form that they showed today, we might as well see both Bermuda and Bahamas qualifying in women's single sculls.
  19. Yeah, looks like I overlooked that Bermudan girl. Her time was much faster than the winning times of the other heats!
  20. It's quite odd that one of their athletes competes in both women's single and double sculls. Meanwhile, it looks like Ecuador and Trinidad and Tobago might qualify in rowing for the first time ever.
  21. That's what happens when stupid qualification system allows the 7th nation from the World Championships to have a much easier group than 4th and 6th teams.
  22. As if tennis players don't already make enough money...
  23. We might have a case of "free quota" in women's foil at the African qualification. Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt are already qualified. Ghana is the only other nation entered for the African championships this year. South Africa competed at some previous African tournaments, but they might not even enter this tournament for the well known reasons.
