  1. I would be very surprised if Etlinger and Žugaj don't get selected.
  2. Yes, that's a very stupid decision. Generally, the worst thing that sport federations can do is to change competition formats because they want "more fans". Usually such changes don't bring any new fans, but they really annoy existing fans.
  3. And it should be easier now considering that, thanks to Netherlands, the number of athletes that a nation can enter in one event has been reduced.
  4. That was a very nice run for junior world champion.
  5. Sasaki finished 18th. http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=0001100104020302FFFFFFFFFFFFFF02
  6. So this should mean that Itahashi's potential quota in women's springboard will not be selected too. Chances for our qualification there are even bigger now.
  7. Virgin Islands get quota by knock out! Well done. Other quotas go to Argentina.
  8. It's fascinating that Netherlands female team is one of the best in the World while their male team is so weak.
  9. Are you sure that Kyrgyzstan "bought" that Russian? Or the Russian just came because he is not the best in Russia? I don't think that Kyrgyzstan is a nation that can afford some athlete shopping.
  10. Well, there can be equally as much corruption regardless of wheter the athletes are selected before or after qualification tournament. As for South Africa, I wouldn't be surprised if some appeals about their selection systems emerge. Obviously there is no point in appealing about selection criteria if you haven't qualified in first place.
  11. There should be some objective ways for deciding that. If someone wins qualification tournament that should be more valuable then qualifying through box-off. Morocco qualifies 9 boxers this time. Out of 8 boxers that they had in London, 7 (!) of them went out in round one. I really don't see the point in that. It's going to be something similar in Rio probably.
  12. South Africa's selection document in triathlon once again clearly states that "continental quotas will not be considered". But there will be no reallocation within this event. If South Africa refuses than the quotas will go to best African nation in rankings.
  13. 4 quotas for Kyrgyzstan at Asian tournament so far, very successful for them.
  14. It should still be possible to qualify in all categories, off course. But there should be some quota limits at continental qualifications. If you want to have a lot of athletes you have to earn it on global stage. Well, at least in canoeing C1 and C2 quotas should be interesting. Sao Tome and Principe should qualify based on their performance at World Championships last year, fingers crossed. Maybe even in C2.
  15. Morocco steals the show in women's boxing. Some countries really got hurt by the fact that there are only 3 quotas per category for Africa (in 2008 and 2012 Africa had 6 quotas per category for example). Ghana has one last chance to qualify in welterweight later today. In 2008 Ghana had 6 boxers, in 2012 4 boxers, so this is very bad for them. Now they have to defeat Algeria just to get this 1 quota.
  16. Wow, what a result for our 2 athletes. Mihaljević gets bronze in shot put, Ivančević 4th in hurdles, both with PB. It couldn't have been better that that!
  17. Maybe, but at least 5 Moroccan boxers will go out in round one.
  18. This is just too painful for Togo. Wouldn't be surprised if he was robbed in at least in one of those fight. One thing that REALLY annoys me are those "weakish" coutries that earn a bunch of quotas at continental qualifications. That's especially often the case at the American and African qualifications with the likes of Venezuela, Tunisia, Morocco etc etc. They qualify a bunch of athletes in wrestling or boxing for example and most of those athletes do nothing at the Olympics (if not all of them). It's a good thing that rowing for example no longer allows to qualify more than 1 boat per gender at continental regattas. Something similar should be done in boxing. For example, it would be good to have a rule that if a country already has 4 or more boxers qualified, then they can't earn a quota in box-off (unless the other nation in box-off also has 4 or more boxers). Everyone would still be able to qualify a lot of boxers, but they would have to "earn" it.
  19. Chinese Taipei qualifies in wrestling for the first time since 1988. Other quotas from today went to pretty much regular participants.
  20. And that's because it didn't exist.
  21. Well, I managed to find some parts of Squaw Valley 1960 movie. Official movie is longer than this 28 minutes. And here is an interesting part about biathlon at those games. Some of the comments that spokesman of the movie says here are quite funny.
  22. Lesotho is qualified in men's 56kg. Other confirmed qualifiers so far are Cameroon and Namibia in men's 49kg.
  23. There will be box-off match for the semifinal losers.
