  1. Thank god, was hoping the European place was still available - think we have a really good chance of claiming it in both events.
  2. Is that based off the world tour and do they take up continental places?
  3. That does sound like summat they'll do, although with the 2024 worlds being where it is I wouldn't be surprised if they merged some of the Paris and Doha selection processes together. GB also tend to have other meets count towards Olympic qualification, they tend to be international ones but it'd be nice to see them use the British Summer Champs with all the top athletes in each event competing (even an Autumn or Winter Champs would be useful and welcomed given the circumstances).
  4. It's a tough one to call with the 2024 worlds being in such an awkward place. I'd like to think we'd be counting times from 2023 British Summer Champs onwards.
  5. You've reported most of them, but you've missed off a few (some of these may have already qualified). Men: Gabriel Gerald Geay Zouhair Talbi Women: Hellen Obiri, Angela Tanui Amane Beriso Shankule, Gotytom Gebreselase Lonah Chemtai Salpeter Aliphine Chepkerker Tuliamuk
  6. Enschede Marathon April 16, 2023 Men's: No qualifiers Women's: Shyline Jepkorir, Cynthia Kosgei Mercyline Chelangat
  7. Not all of them are fighting in the army, quite a lot are still actively competing in sports. Also my post weren't just aimed at men, women can help out with the war effort in many ways too.
  8. Regardless of whether it hinders their sporting prospects, Ukrainians who compete alongside Russians (moreso for male athletes) would most likely be seen as traitors for gallivanting around the world and not defending their country on the battlefield to ensure it has a bright future. I understand their reason for doing this, and they're probably the only country that has a valid reason not to send athletes to compete against Russians and Belarussians.
  9. NN Marathon Rotterdam April 16, 2023 Men's: Abdi Bashir, Koen Naert Timothy Kiplagat (Kenneth Kiprop Kipkemoi missed out by 5 seconds, Cyrus Muati missed out by 8 seconds) Abdi Nageeye Dawit Wolde, Chala Regasa, Asmare Bazezew (Abebe Negewo missed out by 2 seconds) Women's: Eunice Chebichii Chumba, Rose Chelimo Tesfu Teklegergish Dolshi Fatima Azzahraa Ouhaddou Nafie Aleksandra Lisowska
  10. C&D Xiamen Marathon April 2, 2023 Men's: Philimon Kiptoo Kipchumba, Victor Kipchirchir Tesfaye Lencho Anbesa, Fikru Feyisa Omar Ait Chitachen Women's: Mereset Abebayahau, Gutemi Shone Imana, Meseret Tolwak, Yenenesh Tilahun Dinkesa Gladys Chesir
  11. Shijiazhuang Marathon April 2, 2023 Men's: No qualifiers Women's: No qualifiers
  12. Most of the matches you see aren't choreographed. All of the wrestlers you see often improvise their matches and liaison with the other wrestler in the middle of the match to tell them what move to do next. There are obviously some spots that are pre determined beforehand, but a lot of it is improv (unless you're Logan Paul, who I don't count as a wrestler, who has all his matches pre choreographed months in advance).
  13. Many true sports entertainment wrestling fans like myself watch wrestling for the storylines that are created and, particularly with the European wrestlers, to watch big beefy men beat the shit out of each other. As for Gable, he hasn't wrestled a match since he signed and has hardly been featured. WWE clearly don't think he's ready, and think sending him down to their developmental brand (NXT) will waste his marketability potential and ruin how he comes across to fans. Maybe that's why he's been allowed to go back to traditional wrestling, to hone in his skills more and improve on a more relevant stage.
  14. Malaysia and Sri Lanka both have decent teams. Would not be surprised if either of them qualified ahead of them.
  15. I concur. Went to watch the opening rugby sevens session at the Commonwealth games and they looked really good, should've beaten Kenya in their opener and went on to draw with Australia in the evening.
  16. Maybe they were planning to and they just rejected or have been prioritised for other tournaments like Giles.
  17. Disappointed we didn't take Ham, I believe we were allowed to take a maximum of 14 so he must've rejected or been prioritised for other tournaments (assuming that Toprak counts towards the 14). In terms of Young over Fryer, they must think he has more potential than the latter and has more of a chance of reaching Paris. If Hall does indeed drop out I wonder if they'll put someone else in like Fryer or Platten or just leave the spot vacant. Either way I hope the decision to leave off some of the fringe athletes doesn't come back to bite us.
  18. Pretty good showing even with the notable omissions of Adam Peaty, Cassie Wild, Max Litchfield and Alicia Wilson, and the likes of Duncan Scott (400 IM), Brodie Williams (400 IM), James Guy (200 Fly) and Abbie Wood (200 Breast) not competing in events where we failed to reach the standard. If Amelie Blocksidge and Freya Colbert can shave 10 seconds off their respective 800 and 1500 Free times then we could be on for a full house, including relays (although I do expect the field to be cut in half with the ridiculous standards British Swimming set which are faster than our national records).
  19. Watch out for her in the next few years, she's our version of Summer McIntosh and is the next big thing in women's long distance swimming. She gave Freya Colbert a run for her money in the 800, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if she gets the worlds consideration times and Olympic standard times for both 800 and 1500.
  20. The German Darts event you mentioned is a European Tour event, so almost all the world's top players will be competing. I was very surprised at how poor Hull were today, but what matters to me most is that my team Widnes battered Swinton with a couple cracking length of the field tries.
  21. The qualifying times you're on about are there to "guarantee" qualification and will most likely only be used as an easy and fair way to decide who's going if more than 2 swimmers in an event reach the consideration times, which will be used to decide who's going to the worlds (even British Swimming are treating athletes that hit the consideration times as "going to Fukuoka"). We also get to choose up to 8 athletes who didn't hit the GB standard to go under the discretion of the Performance Director and Head Coach, with 30 athletes being the total limit.
  22. None but they've not had that many chances to do so, although it's a certainty that they're gonna boycott the Men's Boxing World Champs. I also believe they'll boycott the fencing world cup events, and would've already started doing so if the early ones wouldn't have been cancelled.
  23. Unfortunately our government won't listen to a left wing northern labour supporter like me, we're seen as weak and inferior. Well continue boycotting events as the government think it'll make them look good ahead of elections next year.
  24. I'm all for boycotting when necessary and compromising sporting integrity when other factors pose a bigger threat, but when it starts becoming detrimental to your athletes' success then that's where I feel you should draw the line, call it a day and beat the opposition your protesting against on the field of play. I'm fine with us boycotting both Boxing world championships as they're practically meaningless and the whole thing was a corrupt and dodgy mess to begin with, but when it comes to events like these where they directly affect us qualifying for major championships in a big way then it's best to beat the Russians and Belarusians on the mat and prevent them from reaching the Olympics that way.
