  1. Well, it's very interesting that this was revealed on the day Japan extended trade sanctions on DPR Korea for another two years. I'm sure this a political decision by North Korea rather than anything to do with the virus.
  2. Talking Olympic qualifying. Does anyone know how many countries are affected by this qualifying rule? We know Thailand, Egypt and Malaysia but the IWF website has not been updated since January so I guess there must be more? "With reference to Article 12.6 IWF ADP, should two or more Athletes or other Persons affiliated to an IWF MF/NOC be found to have committed a violation of the IWF ADP giving rise to a period of ineligibility of four years or more on the occasion and during the In-Competition period of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 (including following further analyses of samples), the concerned MF/NOC shall be automatically prevented from recommending, entering and/or proposing affiliated Athletes or other Persons for participation in the next ensuing Olympic Games following the final decision imposing the (first two) relevant sanctions (and shall take all necessary measures to prevent such participation), without prejudice to any other sanction that may be imposed in accordance with the IWF ADP."
  3. What happened to cause Ireland to get a gymnastics quota?
  4. Although I think this is a political decision and nothing to do with the Covid situation
  5. Anyone know what are the chances of some of the GBR women qualifying for Tokyo?
  6. Here's the reply I got "Just had a look at the qualification system doc. Given it says: "An athlete can qualify in one of two ways - entry standard or world ranking." I understand that to mean that both pathways have equal weighting, and federations can select any athletes they like, provided they're qualified in either of those ways. In fact, that would have to be the case for comps like the US Trials to work. If, for example, the USA has 7 athletes with the qualifying standard and a further 6 within world rankings places, they'd still be able to send the top three finishers at the US Trials."
  7. I've just asked a friend who works for World Athletics for his opinion. I'll send you his reply when I get it.

  11. Talking to people who know more about athletics, they believe there were too many big personal bests set by people not running on the special shoes. They think it was a problem with the measurement of the course
  12. Although court papers have proved that both Riis and Pantani were doping with EPO on a massive scale since at least 92-3. There were even some rumours that they had some blood in their EPO system
  13. This was the era of Riis, Pantani, Armstrong and the most blatant drug cheats of all time and the most important decision the UCI was to ban riders from having their arms sticking out in front of them...
