  1. Good news for China. With so many qualifiers in coming months, the preparation for China would be very tough due to the travel bans. Good luck.
  2. I understand big country always draw more attention and those international reaction. It's quite normal, and most Chinese can appreciate the travel bans for Chinese and evacuation. Fear is a normally universal emotion. But I just personally think it goes too far. 17 years ago, when the SARS outbreak in China with heavier mortality and lower medical technology, people in China were calmer than now and no such travel bans around the world. I just think media magnify the terror emotion. When I browse Weibo( Chinese version twitter) about the virus outbreak, I feel the world is hopeless and I am gonna have a heart attack. about the daily reported new patients number, I mainly refer to my hometown province in China named Guangxi, I can give u the exact officially published number of daily new patients in Guangxi according Guangxi Daily, a provincial state-owned media: 1 21 2 person 1 22 3 1 23 8 1 24 10 1 25 10 1 26 13 1 27 5 1 28 7 1 29 20 1 30 9 1 31 13 The accumulated patients are still growing for sure, just daily new patients start to decrease (excluded Hubei). Almost the whole country is experiencing the self quarantine at home during lunar new year holiday thus all mega cities seem to be ghost towns right now. Based on this and my optimism, I think the severity will start to decrease in mid February, and will ends in March or April.
  3. Thank you for your prayer for Wuhan people, we all hope this outbreak will end soon. Still as a Chinese currently live in rest part of China outside Wuhan, I have something to clarify about the lockdown in Wuhan, especially it is not letting people there waiting to death and dying nonstop. First, the lockdown is to stop the speedy spread of the virus to the whole China and the whole world as the virus seems quite easy to infect people. After several days lockdown, the daily reported new patients in other parts of China start to decrease as well as the other countries. If the lockdown is not implemented, I can't imagine how many people are infected right now thorough China and the whole world due to the lunar new year migration. Second, the best medical resource, equipment and manpower from all over the rest of China are continuously flooding into Hubei province for assistance, doctors and nurses are working days and nights with almost no rest. No one want to or willing to see patients in Wuhan dead desperately, regardless of the the government, doctors or the ordinary people. Everybody is helping in their own ways. But medical resources especially masks, goggles, protective clothing for doctors and inpatient beds for patients are still in shortage. Society donation plays a major role to deal with it. Third, the mortality of the coronavirus is currently between 2.2%-2.5% and no patients dead outside China until now (around 100 patients). Most dead cases are elderly and those with other disease. According to CNN, the mortality of seasoning influenza is around 1.6%-2.6% with no significant deference with the coronavirus. Maybe it's too early to draw the conclusion of the newly virus, but it's definitely not as fatal as SARS, MERS or Ebola. 80% of patients are with slight symptoms just as flu and will recover in a couple of days. It's true that 20% patients with heavy symptoms is still a huge numbers and worth 100% medical treatment, but at least it means Wuhan people in a lockdown is not hopeless to die. Most patients will recover after treatment. The lockdown is to contain the spread of the virus but not a lockdown from medical resource into Wuhan and letting people sink or swim themselves. Lastly and unpolitical correctly (even lots my friends don't agree with), I think people all over the world including Chinese and foreigners overreact towards this outbreak. If this virus outbreak took place in some African or Latin American country with 2.5% mortality and around 200-500 dead in number, will any mainstream media make it headline news for a whole week and evacuation and so on?
  4. According to China state-run media, the most famous and major player Wang Shuang may not participate the qualifier in Australia due to traffic restriction in Wuhan. She is currently taking the leave in Wuhan with her family for lunar new year and may not leave the city due to the restriction. It is a great loss for China and would dramatically reduce the power of the team. BTW total 4 players including Wang Shuang are currently in Wuhan and all of them may fail to participate the qualifier
  5. Well the Korea neighbor China knows it very well. Big events include 2018 Winter Olympic Short Track Speed Skating, 1988 summer Olympic Boxing, 2002 FIFA World Cup and 2014 Asian Games badminton. Korea would take very advantage of the host field and influence judges very much.
  6. Badminton Asia Confederation definitely fear to bear the responsibility of athletes infection especially during the Olympic year. The host city is definitely gonna change, but if it's in China is still questionable.
  7. A lots of Olympic qualification events in February have moved to elsewhere outside China including boxing, basketball and football. Those will be held in March and April are not that urgent to decide. I suppose March events may suspend or change the location, April events may be held as usual if the virus is over. As the government putting all available resource to contain the virus spread including transport restriction in Wuhan and the social awareness arising to prevent the virus by 'strictly staying at home and cutting off social contact', I personally think the virus outbreak would gradually decrease in mid Feb and end in March
  8. I prefer this to be the best solution, only 4 regions(Asia pacific, Europe, Africa and Pan America) each with one quota, and all the rest will go to global tournaments(and several invitation quotas). It's much more fair and competitive, good both for athletes and audience.
  9. HUGE competence gap between two groups( like what happened in Rio again). No.1 seed for Host Country is so not fair for World No.1 & 2 and other countries with them. I think China and USA don't care about it too much, but Russia, Italy and Turkey must struggling with this grouping.
  10. Good chance for China after winning Qatar 3:1, especially watching the game between Iran and South Korea so close. It's very energy consuming for Iran.
  11. When could we know if Ukraine and Qatar are fine? assuming it should be finalized but just not published?
  12. Great news for Australia and China. It seems South Korea will assure no.1 in Group A then, so whichever team from Group B get no.1 will avoid meeting South Korea on the final stage. Hope China will get the 1st place in home
  13. Even if Qatar and Ukraine want to meet MER through 5.1, should they do that before 31 Dec or next year would also be fine?
  14. Li Na(tennis) won the French Open in 2011, sleepless night for me.
  15. For China definitely goes to Li Na the tennis player. She is not an Olympic medalist but won 2 grand slam titles, becoming the first asian ever to achieve this. She is very popular among Chinese fans and sponsors. Top1 influential and profitable athlete during the early decade. And thanks to her, the tennis sports improve fast in China and becoming a popular one. There are lots of high level professional tennis events held in China now. For the team goes to National Women's Volleyball Team. they won 2 time World Cup and the gold medal in Rio with several breath-taking games with Brazil, Netherland and Serbia, the process is very nervous. this is widely considered as the most important gold won in past two Olympics. BTW there will be two biographical films releasing next year in China respectively for Li Na and Women's Volleyball Team. these also are the only two sports biographical films until now, quite a privilege.
  16. Male sportsperson of the year: Rafael Nadal (runner up Caeleb Dressel ) Female sportsperson of the year: Simon Biles Team of the year: Men's Basketball Team (runner up Women's Volleyball Team) Junior sportsman of the year (under 20 years old at 1/1/2019): I don't know Junior sportswoman of the year (under 20 years old at 1/1/2019): Bianca Andreescu Greatest moment of the year: Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer in Wimbledon Final Biggest idiot of the year: a little offensive and disrespectful, Roger Federer missed two match points and lost the Wimbledon Final
  17. I like 2019 very much and a pretty good year for me. Tennis My favorite athlete of all sports Rafael Nadal won two Grand Slams and ending the season as No.1. The Wimbledon Final between Djokovic and Federer and the US open final between Nadal and Medvedev are truly extraordinary and epic game for audience. I'm more than satisfactory as a tennis fan during 2019. Winter Sports I like figure skate and curling. Chinese players Sui/Han won WCH and the grand prix final in pairs. Chinese men/ladies single and ice dance are also improving fast. A new star Nathan Chen is born winning over Yuzuru Hanyu in 2019. I really like his style to perform and become a fan of Chen. Women curling team almost grabbed a medal in WCH but failed. it still was a good result during past few years though. Athletics Swimming Gymnastics Chinese Team did a quite stable job in WCH of athletics and swimming, no surprise and no new stars, winning 3 gold medals respectively, being stable is good enough for me. Artistic Gymnastics WCH is a disaster, first time 0 gold medal for past 26 years (some good players absence for winning more Olympic quotas, still optimistic for 2-3 golds in Tokyo 2020). Other Sports Very happy to see the progress of rowing and slalom canoeing winning several WCH gold medals, women volleyball won the world cup and back to world no.1. But also some terrible moments, men basketball first time ever to lose Olympic qualification in home field FIBA World Cup since rejoin the 1984 Olympic, Judo 0 medals in WCH, Badminton WCH only 1 gold medal and surpassed by Japan. With lots of happy and sad moments in 2019, overall it still a very good one for me.
  18. Liang lost the semi final and failed to grab the quota. Congrats to Woolley.
  19. Thanks Olympian1010, this forum is awesome and I am gonna love it.
  20. The withdrawal of those qualified are quite understandable. But Woolley is quite confusing, maybe he thinks the Europe qualification event is more easy and confident for him while the qualification system of Grand Slam is random and energy-consuming. He still has a great chance to get the quota after all.
  21. To be honest, the draw itself suggests something has been done by China Federation. I think the draw is too good to be true for Liang. The first round is bye, QF against a Chinese and SF 50% against Chinese and 50% against some foreigners ranking lower than him. Then he will reach the final. Hope he grab the chance.
  22. 3rd day draw released. http://www.worldtaekwondo.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Draw-Sheet20-DEC-2019-Day-3-With-Contest-Number.pdf Yushuai Liang has a perfect chance to win the Grand Slam Olympic quota as long as he gets into the final. I think it not that difficult as it sounds according to the draw. Hope he win it.
