  1. Do we have a "TISC community Google drive" where we can share Olympic videos? I am asking this because I got 20 GB of Barcelona footage with mostly Hungarian stuff, commentated by Hungarians. It's from a 2020 Hungarian Olympic TV show where MTVA shared their old Olympic footage from the 90s and 2000s. Anyway, 20GB is too large to be shared on a free Google Drive as the limit is 15GB. What I did is that I made a YouTube channel for the Hungarian races/matches, for Hungarians, so it's all in Hungarian, but you can probably figure out what's going on. This channel is destined to be taken down by IOC sooner rather than later, but here it is for now if anyone wants to watch Egerszegi and Darnyi being awesome in Barcelona... ...or to watch Germany beat us in men's team epée as the commentator struggles to stay awake at the start of the match because it's epée in 1992. The channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJwbwsTM-KIclnUW9VK0TPg And while I can't share everything in a drive (there are certain ways to download from YT anyway), I do have a couple of non-Hungarian events that I didn't upload to YT, mostly to avoid the inevitable death of this channel a bit longer. So here's this shared folder with some athletics (men's 100m, women's 100m and 100m hurdles), some gymnastics, and the highlights of the men's water polo and men's handball finals. And also the TV intro of the 1992 Summer Games because why not. The shared folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1cO-AhGWzIjsR80D-RkIXuy2R1kbmj4El?usp=sharing
  2. Feltöltöttem a YouTube-ra a barcelonai magyar érmes események felvételeit az MTVA tavalyi összefoglalóiból. Ez a YT csatorna valószínűleg rövid életű lesz, az IOC akármelyik pillanatban leszedheti, szóval ajánlott letölteni a videókat valamilyen módon ha később is meg akarjátok őket nézni. A YouTube csatorna: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJwbwsTM-KIclnUW9VK0TPg/
  3. Here's an article about the Chinese loan in English: https://www.direkt36.hu/en/kinai-hitelbol-keszul-a-magyar-felsooktatas-oriasberuhazasa-a-kormany-mar-oda-is-igerte-egy-kinai-cegnek/
  4. As long as there will be spectators, I think the atmosphere will be fine even if there will be some unusual stuff. Like, we just allowed full capacity for our EURO2020 matches in Budapest, even with some COVID restriction that's going to feel like a regular, pre-COVID football match. The same can be true for the Games even with mostly neutral spectators.
  5. It looks like Budapest is about to lose the Athletics World Championships. There is a feud between the governing party and the mayor of Budapest, who's in the opposition. The governing party has crossed the line with various projects in the city, most notably with a huge project for a Chinese university over a vision of a more Western "district for students". The mayor promised that if the conservatives continue to back the Chinese university over his project, he will write a letter to IAAF to reject the hosting right of the 2023 WCh. I think there's a good chance that it will happen, for the governing party the project of the Chinese university is way more important than the Athletics WCh, as there's a ton of Chinese money in it, they are pretty much selling the country to China.
  6. Yeah, I wouldn't call the predictions here optimistic, pretty much no one is overestimating their country in this thread. Like, I am usually a more pessimistic person, and somehow my prediction here turned out to be more hopeful than most of the others. (and even I said that there's a very real possibility of us having a terrible Games, as many of our medal and gold chances are in unpredictable sports like fencing, wrestling, sailing, shooting, etc.)
  7. Looking at your predictions, it saddens me that you are not back to your former glory. I miss the times when people here made a big deal out of Hungary v Romania at the Games because both of us were expected to collect close to 10 gold medals or maybe even more. That rivalry was a lot of fun (as long as some didn't take it too seriously).
  8. You don't see a medal in women's handball? You were one of the most consistent teams in the Olympic cycle and you are the world champions.
  9. The Hungarian national sports newspaper is rather pessimistic about Nagy's quota, I think they are expecting that the quota is lost as one of the weightlifters from 109kg will likely use this opportunity to qualify for +109kg. This means that Hungary will likely fail to qualify any weightlifters for the Games for the first time since 1956. The final nail in the coffin of Hungarian weightlifting.
  10. How does the Olympic qualification look for Nagy? He has been the only notable Hungarian weightlifter in the last decade and sadly it looks like his best days are behind him, I doubt we will ever repeat the 420kg total from Rio.
  11. Two gold medals for us... in non-Olympic events. Maybe one day we will win a medal in an Olympic rowing event.
  12. I have made a post earlier in the Hungarian National Thread listing all the events where we have chances for medals, so I will copy it here in English. These are the events where I think we have at least an okay (50%) chance for a medal. We got some other, smaller chances, but I am not listing those. I am also not listing any events where we didn't qualify yet, so no judo, but we will probably have at least one or two chances there as well. I might also list pentathlon as an at least 50% chance later, depends on how the pentathlon World Cup and WCh will go for us. Athletics (1) men's hammer throw Canoe Sprint (7) men's K1 1000m women's K2 500m women's C1 200m women's K1 500m men's K4 500m women's C2 500m women's K4 500m Fencing (5) men's individual sabre men's individual epée women's individual sabre men's team sabre women's team sabre Sailing (1) men's finn Shooting (3) men's 10m air rifle men's 50m rifle 3 positions mixed 10m rifle team Swimming (7) women's 400m individual medley women's 400m freestyle men's 200m butterfly women's 200m individual medley women's 200m butterfly men's 100m butterfly men's 10km open water Water polo (2) men's women's Wrestling (4) men's GR 67kg men's GR 77kg men's GR 87kg men's freestyle 65kg If we win a medal in 50% of these, that would be 15 medals, which would be the same as in Rio for us.
  13. It's hard to tell for us, I think we got many chances for both gold medals and medals in general, but we can always flop like in Beijing. We probably lost two gold medals with the one year delay as I can't see Hosszú winning in Tokyo anymore, but at the same time we got many talented young athletes who might have a better shot thanks to the delay. The minimum for us is 3 gold medals and 10 medals, but that would be a disappointment. So... 5-7 gold medals, 15-18 medals. That would be an okay Games and that's what I am expecting. But we can also have an amazing games with 10 gold medals and 25+ medals, for that everything would have to go perfectly. Kristóf Milák should win in swimming, we should have at least two gold medals in canoe sprint. Other than those two disciplines we got gold medal chances in shooting, sailing, water polo, wrestling and fencing. And maaaybe in athletics if a miracle happens in men's hammer throw.
  14. The athletes who are currently on the qualifying spots after the first event in Sofia, three more events to go. Men's Ádám Marosi Marvin Faly Dogue / Fabian Liebig / Christian Zillekens Ilya Palazkov Ahmed Elgendy Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe Pavlo Tymoshchenko Jan Kuf Aleix Heredia Vives Women's Joanna Muir / Francesca Summers Gulnaz Gubaydullina / Uliana Batashova Janine Kohlmann Anna Maliszewska Alice Sotero Ilke Ozyuksel Rena Shimazu Mayan Oliver
  15. Yeah, the 3 highest. Which is why the ranking can change a lot with the last two events (World Cup finals and World Championships), because those are the two "level 1" events in the Olympic qualification.
  16. Well done, Robi. Kasza didn't even qualify for the Final in Budapest and now he won the silver in Sofia. He still has a chance to qualify for Tokyo.
  17. 31st for Hungary in the voting order for the second contest in a row.
  18. Disappointing laser run from Gulyás, but it looks like she might be our best athlete in women's pentathlon now? One more similarly good result from her and I think she will get the second Hungarian quota.
  19. I miss the times when the weather was my #1 concern about the Games. Still, I hope there won't be some crazy high temperatures.
  20. Another medal for us, this time a bronze for Luca Patakfalvy in women's 53kg. Wtf is going on, is this a weak ECh and some countries didn't show up? I am not used to seeing multiple Hungarian medals in this sport.
  21. 8 host cities with confirmed capacities: Budapest - 100% Saint Petersburg and Baku - 50% Amsterdam, Bucharest, Copenhagen and Glasgow - 25%-33% London - 25% Hungary will allow spectators from abroad to travel to Budapest if they will have two negative COVID tests. Same for Baku for the countries who will play at that venue. And probably something similar for Saint Petersburg.
  22. Budapest officially wants to host their EURO2020 matches at full capacity. I think we will be the only host who will try to have a full stadium.
  23. I thought that it would be neat to count which nations won the most gold medals at the Summer Games when a Hungarian won the silver meldal. In other words, which nations "beat us to the gold". Here are the disciplines where at least one nation beat us more than one time: (I counted the Soviet medals as Russian, and the Yugoslav medals as Serbian, and I also combined all the German medals) Artistic Gymnastics 4 Athletics 3 Canoe Sprint 12 Fencing 6 Modern Pentathlon 4 Swimming 10 Weightlifting 5 Wrestling 5 And the overall count: 33 - 19 - 13 - 11 - 8 - 6 - 5 - 3 - 2 - 1 - And now to do the opposite, which nations won the the silver medal when we won the gold, per discipline and then the overall count: Artistic Gymnastics 4 Canoe Sprint 9 Fencing 14 Modern Pentathlon 4 Shooting 2 Swimming 9 Water Polo 4 Wrestling 9 28 - 21 - 20 - 17 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 3 - 2 - 1 - So it looks like Italy can hate us the most for beating them 20 times while they "only" beat us 11 times. This is mostly thanks to the Hungarian men's sabre team who dominated the event for many decades, and most of time Italy was the runner-up.
  24. To celebrate her, here are the videos of her win in Athens:
  25. Diána Igaly, Olympic champion of women's skeet in 2004, has passed away at the age of 56. The cause of her death is COVID related. One of our greatest athletes in shooting, rest in piece.
