  1. For us it all comes down to the World Championships in Budapest anyway. I mean, not really, the other events matter, obviously, but we are very lucky that the most important event for the Olympic qualification in our country, so if some Hungarian judokas can't collect enough points in Budapest, they don't deserve to be in Tokyo.
  2. It looks like it, and not just her. I checked the draw yesterday and we had two female judokas at this event. Now we don't have any. If the Hungarian Judo Federation says anything on this matter, I will inform you here.
  3. We are expected to start open up around April 9, that's the date when around 25% of the population will be vaccinated, and for some reason Orbán has decided that 2.5 million is the magical number for Hungary where we can ease the restrictions. Here's where we are now: https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&time=328..latest&pickerSort=desc&pickerMetric=population&Metric=People+vaccinated&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=true&Align+outbreaks=false&country=GBR~European+Union~USA~HUN And also the third, really deadly wave is peaking now, so by mid-April I think the wave will be mostly over.
  4. Also, Japan seriously messed up the vaccination so far, just look at this comparison of the G7 countries: https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&time=328..latest&pickerSort=desc&pickerMetric=population&Metric=People+vaccinated&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=true&Align+outbreaks=false&country=USA~GBR~European+Union~JPN~CAN~FRA~DEU~ITA They really need to do something about this and quickly vaccinate their population, otherwise there won't be any spectators at the events, or worse, they will hit by a huge wave and who knows what they will do in that case.
  5. I think we are reaching a crucial point for the Games. It looks like the Diving World Cup in Tokyo is cancelled and the fourth wave is about to hit Japan as we are getting close to a "point of no return" with the Games, I doubt that they can cancel it if the countdown goes below 100 days. If there will be a cancellation, it's going to happen in the next few days/weeks.
  6. Well, if they want to cancel, they have to do it now, we are pretty much at the point of no return with close to 100 days to go. This isn't the kind of event that they can cancel at the last minute.
  7. That's also a good question, I couldn't find anything. My guess is that we automatically bring the wrestlers to Tokyo who won the quotas, but that might just be because it's quite clear that they are the best in their events and nobody wants to challenge them. For example, Korpási would likely be the only one who could put up a real fight against Tamás Lőrincz, but instead he choose to wrestle in 67kg, because that was still an easier task than to challenge Lőrincz. If we will have any trials later, I will share the results here.
  8. That's a good question, I am not sure what's the deal. My guess that there was another trial because he "lost his chance" at the European OQT that he won earlier and he will go to Tokyo if he wins in Sofia. I mean, it would be kinda ridiculous to have a trial for the third time in 6 months. Balázs Kiss will compete at the ECh in April, that's the "prize" for the 2nd place at this trial. I guess this also means that none of the Hungarians competing at the World Qualifier will show up in Warsaw for the ECh.
  9. Alex Szőke won against Balázs Kiss and Erik Szilvássy, he will the one to fight for the Hungarian quota in GR 97 in Sofia.

  13. This means an easy qualification for and v will be interesting for the final spot of that group. I am guessing that and will qualify from the death group no matter what. will fight really hard for the last two spots, every match will count. It can be the most exiting group at the team events.
  14. Hey, Hungary and France in death groups is the theme of this summer, first UEFA EURO2020 and now women's handball in Tokyo.
  15. Jesus, I thought that we will even get in our group, that would have been the worst possible draw for us. Still, it's going to be really hard to qualify from this group. We will have exciting matches from the start.

  17. Hm, I guess Germany is officially the weak link of the France-Portugal-Germany trio, too bad that we will play against them in Munich, not in Budapest.
  19. Well, here we go, the provisional Hungarian Olympic Swimming Team was announced. There are a few substitutes if one of the named swimmers refuse to enter in the given event. In men's 200m freestyle and 200m medley the final decision hasn't been made yet. This list also doesn't include swimmers with OSTs for obvious reasons. Men's 50m freestyle - Maxim Lobanovszkij 100m freestyle - Kristóf Milák, Nándor Németh (substitute: Szebasztián Szabó) 200m freestyle - [Kristóf Milák and/or Nándor Németh and/or Dominik Kozma] 400m freestyle - Gábor Zombori 800m freestyle - Ákos Kalmár 1500m freestyle - Ákos Kalmár, Gergely Gyurta 100m backstroke - Richárd Bohus, Ádám Telegdy 200m backstroke - Ádám Telegdy 100m butterfly - Kristóf Milák, Szebasztián Szabó 200m butterfly - Kristóf Milák, Tamás Kenderesi 200m medley - Hubert Kós, [László Cseh or Péter Bernek] 400m medley - Dávid Verrasztó, Péter Bernek Women's 200m freestyle - Katinka Hosszú 400m freestyle - Ajna Késely (substitutes: Katinka Hosszú, Boglárka Kapás) 800m freestyle - Ajna Késely 1500m freestyle - Ajna Késely, Boglárka Kapás (substitute: Viktória Mihályvári-Farkas) 100m backstroke - Katinka Hosszú, Katalin Burián 200m backstroke - Katinka Hosszú, Katalin Burián (substitute: Eszter Szabó-Feltóthy) 200m breaststroke - Eszter Békési 100m butterfly - Katinka Hosszú 200m butterfly - Katinka Hosszú, Boglárka Kapás (substitute: Zsuzsanna Jakabos) 200m medley - Katinka Hosszú, Dalma Sebestyén 400m medley - Katinka Hosszú Hosszú will obviously not enter in 7 individual events in the end (I hope). Milák now has the freedom to decide if he wants to do 100m freestyle, Sós gave his blessing. The team will be finalized after June 19 (the final day of the Budapest Open). They also announced that 56 Hungarian swimmers will compete at the European Championships.
  20. Meanwhile here the narrative of the ruling conservatives is starting to become that Russia and China saved Hungary with their vaccines while the West failed us. Hungary currently has a higher percentage of vaccination than any other EU member state (other than maybe the smaller ones like Malta?) thanks to that we didn't mess around with Sputnik and the Chinese stuff and accepted their vaccines. Just today we got 250 thousand new Sputnik vaccines. So far we got 1.1 million Russian and 1.1 million Chinese vaccines, so around 2/3 of our vaccines came "from the East". But at the same time a lot of Hungarians are dying, the situation is worse here than in any of the other EU states. And the conservative politicians are blaming the EU and the West, saying that the shortage of Western vaccines is killing Hungarians.
  21. I was wondering, did anyone ever make a compilation and side-by-side comparisons of the old Olympic TV graphics? I mean, I know that it's not that hard to look up old Olmpics broadcasts, I just thought that there might be a YT video or article on this topic that I missed, similar to this great video about F1 TV graphics:
  22. The Hungarian National TV was a true trailblazer, they already made the decision to move back their main studio to Budapest from the hosting city 5 years ago. That was mostly because the Hungarian TV is running out of money, so they can't afford it anymore to move their entire sport department to the hosting city and have their production there. Which is a shame, I liked how special it felt when their entire team was in Beijing and London with a studio made just for this one event. Maybe they will do it again for Paris because it will be closer to us, but I doubt it, the Hungarian TV isn't making any extra effort anymore to have quality broadcasts.
  23. Yeah, if this torch relay is any indication, we won't have issues with low attendance at the Games, as long as they let spectators in.
