That's true, but Egypt can collect enough points later during the 9-16th matches.

It looks like it all comes down to v regarding the African quota. Poor Egypt, so many countries are rooting against them.

Meanwhile Germany and Spain are doing "their job" for us, but Egypt is currently winning against Estonia, they are really close to qualify for Tokyo.

France goes to Tokyo if Italy beats Korea, Japan is ahead of Egypt, and France collects enough points to be ahead of Ukraine in the final ranking. It doesn't matter anymore where the US finishes at this event, this is going to be their worst World Cup event, so it doesn't count for them.

Yes, Italy has to beat Korea, otherwise France will have to be in the final at the very least and hope that Estonia doesn't get enough points at this event.

Meanwhile the clusterfuck of Men's épéé already started, we and other Europeans are rooting for Estonia, Spain and Germany to all win in the R32, because in that case we can get one more quota.

I think they are 17th at the moment, so not yet. It will depend on if they can finish ahead of Japan here, which will also know by the end of the day.

Ukraine is still very much in this, they can have 214 points if they will reach the 9th place at this event. France currently has 205 points minimum if they are 8th. If France finishes in the Top4, they will be ahead of Ukraine no matter what. But I think we will know exactly what France needs to do by the end of the day because the 9-16th matches are today while Top8 matches will be tomorrow.

This couldn't be a better news for France, we defeated the US team and Ukraine is out of the Top8, but this is still far from over.

The only way this team event would be approved by anyone at FIE and in the fencing community if it was a bonus event similar to the Judo Mixed Team thing, not as something that replaces the other team events. And it would be just as weird as the Judo Mixed Team event, it's not something that needs to be in the Olympic program.

Uh, for a moment I thought Montenegro will actually try to eliminate Norway with a 25-30. Montenegro fell asleep during the last few minutes and let Romania score goals quickly. I think they would have tried it if there was some more time left, we got really close to it with 25-28.

I would say that we will likely need to reach the SF at the very least, and for that we will have to beat France, who are the Olympic and World champions and they were outside of the Top4 only once at the qualification events (ECh 2019). Yeah, I think we are kinda fucked...
