  1. Another promising match for us against the Netherlands, hopefully we can break the curse this year in Tokyo.
  2. I guess we are getting France if they don't mess up the 2nd half. I doubt Spain will let us avoid France.
  3. This sounds like us in women's handball. Expect many of the youngsters are already in the adult team and we are still shit, so we can't fire everyone if Serbia eliminates us at the OQT.
  4. Comparison with Rio 2016. Obviously this isn't final, many teams can still return or gain quotas. Returning Rio2016 teams Gained quotas Lost quotas M Football (14/16) W Football (10/12) M Basketball (8/12) W Basketball (12/12) M Volleyball (12/12) W Volleyball (12/12) M Handball (6/12) W Handball (6/12) M Water polo (9/12) W Water polo (10/10) M Field hockey (12/12) W Field hockey (12/12) M Rugby (11/12) W Rugby (10/12) Baseball (4/6) Softball (6/6)
  5. In case you want to compare it to Rio, this is what we had 5 years ago: 13 teams 10 teams 9 teams 7 teams 6 teams 5 teams 4 teams 3 teams 2 teams 1 team
  6. Now that the team qualifications are on again, I wanted to count the teams per nations that have already qualified. I am talking about only team sports, so football, basketball, volleyball, water polo, handball, field hockey, rugby, baseball, softball and 3x3 basketball. (I know that beach volleyball is technically a team sport, but I don't want to count an event where multiple pairs can qualify from the same nation, plus it's just pairs.) Edit: I have changed by mind and deleted the 3x3 basketball quotas. The teams are too small compared to the other sports, so I think it doesn't have the importance as the other events in terms of team size and athlete quotas. 16 teams 11 teams 10 teams 8 teams 6 teams 5 teams 4 teams 3 teams 2 teams 1 team The most notable nation in teams sports that's missing from this list is , but they still got a couple of really good chances to qualify in team sports.
  7. More like you know it's going nowhere because only 40 thousand people protested in Moscow. I mean, that's pretty much nothing. Even in Budapest the weak opposition was able to organize bigger protests in a much smaller capital than Moscow when the majority of the country was supporting Orbán. So it's funny to see the Western media report on this like it's some significant event. All I see is a ridiculous and completely futile attempt from the West to weaken Russia internally.
  8. Damn, this is really bad two months before the OQT, it won't be easy for Croatia against France and Portugal after this drama.
  9. According to this it's 12 players + 1 substitution: https://total-waterpolo.com/final-agreement-12-player-roster-1-substitution-at-2020-olympics/ So it depends on if you count substitutions as athlete quotas or not. For example HOC counts fencing teams as 3+1, 3 regular members and 1 substitution.
  10. Maybe they ate the same legendary pasta that our footballers supposedly consumed at the 1986 World Cup before the match against the Soviet Union.
  11. The Hungarian Olympic Committee is counting it as 12+1. I am not really sure why they have it like that, but for now I will try to have the same number they have.
  12. Közel egy év után szereztünk újra kvótákat Tokióba, kijutott a női vízilabda válogatott!
  13. https://narod.hr/sport/zabrinjavajuce-vijesti-iz-kaira-uoci-kljucne-utakmice-hrvatske-rukometne-reprezentacije/amp Apparently Croatia had some food/stomach related problems. @dcro, do you know something about this?
  14. Yeah, but RSA made the decision to send a team pre-COVID, so I think they can get away with a withdrawal without a controversy if they say that the global crises made their preparation for the Olympics too costly, or something along the lines of that. Anyway, there's obviously a bigger chance for a withdrawal this time (any other time that chance would be pretty much zero), so I think Greece and Italy should and will take that match seriously.
  15. Good to know that our girls can still play this game really well. But obviously this match was mostly decided by the nerves of the Italian players, the pressure was too much for them.
  16. Let's see if the winter sleep of our girls is finally over and they start playing water polo this time...
  17. I feel like we got a bit lucky because by the time Poland started playing well they have already lost match mostly thanks to the errors made by them. Anyway, we are in the QF, and even if we go home after two lost games against Spain and France, this is a promising start for Paris 2024. It's a shame that we have messed up the last few championships, the boys are getting better, they would actually have a chance for Tokyo at the OQT
  18. There actually is. And there's also a chance for a COVID withdrawal, so the 3rd place match is still somewhat important.
  19. I hope you are right about that, but I am afraid we are just kinda shit at this tournament.
  20. Well, if Egypt ever beats Slovenia on such an important match, it's going to happen in Egypt, so it can happen. I am not sure if Slovenia is much weaker than they were one year ago when they were in the Top4 at the ECh, but I would never underestimate them. They almost always end up in the Top8 when they qualify for an event.
  21. I find it a bit surprising how few actual surprises are happening at this WCh so far all things considered. I mean, sure, there are a couple of upsets as always, but Germany is the only top European team that kinda fucked up their championship, and even they still have a chance if Poland helps them today by not letting us qualify. And while Group IV is messy, Sweden and Slovenia (as the stronger teams on paper) can still qualify by beating Russia and Egypt. I expected more chaos because of COVID. If everything goes as expected, these will be the QFs: v v v v But hopefully there will be some surprises (just not on our match today )
  22. That's because those sports are the "black sheep" of the Games with many huge scandals. They wouldn't be in any danger otherwise.
  23. I doubt IOC would ever be able to pull that off as water polo has been part of the program for 125 years now.
  24. Men's water polo isn't all that much better in terms of the variety of teams, and yet they have 12 slots. I know, the matches aren't as ridiculously one-sided, but the Top7 European teams (Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Greece) will literally never miss the Games.
  25. We are playing quite terribly today as well against France. I am changing my mind, I think it will be Greece and Italy. There's a chance that the Dutch made a bad call by choosing Greece instead of us.
