  2. Well, Kovács can't really pull it off because she already won the quota at the 2019 WCh. She's the one Hungarian gymnast who qualified for Tokyo so far, and I doubt that anyone will join her.
  3. They just like to overrate our chances sometimes. I will never forget that around 2015-16 our original goal for Tokyo was to qualify the women's team. Like, sure, even at that point with zero knowledge about our juniors I knew that it was almost certainly impossible. Hungarian gymnastics will just never be that strong.
  4. No idea, the only thing I know beyond the seeds is that Szudi seemed optimistic in his interview.
  5. Yuan is the 9th seeded player: https://www.ettu.org/?proxy=redaktion/Competitions/European-Olympic-Singles-Qualification/EOSQ_Seeding-List.pdf
  6. Well, we got seeds, this is the Top8 for both competitions: Men - Women -
  7. This is why I didn't get that the Hungarians seemed somewhat optimistic that they got a chance to win a quota on the men's side that we missed out on at the 2019 WCh. We would need a miracle because all the top nations will want to score additional quotas, the WCh was our only chance.
  8. The only reasonable explanation I can think of that they thought that politicians and other allies of UEFA won't get involved as they have a worldwide pandemic on their hands to deal with.
  9. Poor Poland. On the other hand, this will be the first big international competition for Austria since 2009. It's nice to see them return, I hope they have a more successful decade ahead of them.
  10. They didn't underestimate the sport, they underestimated UEFA and FIFA, who just demonstrated how powerful they actually are. There can't be a successful coup when people in power have more powerful allies. The governments aren't protecting the sport, they are protecting their millionaire friends inside the UEFA. For example, Orbán obviously wants UEFA to have full control over European football when one of the wealthiest Hungarians, who is his friend, is a vice president of UEFA.
  11. I guess this means that UEFA will be the one organize the Super League after all, under the disguise of the Champions League. Makes more sense than to start it all over if they make some deals with UEFA. If this whole ESL thing was about some top clubs securing their spot in the top international competition in case of a bad season in the national league, I am not sure why they couldn't just wait for UEFA to introduce the wild cards into the CL, which will make it almost impossible for them to miss the competition.
  12. I mean, he isn't wrong, sports in general are clearly losing the younger generations, but I doubt that shorter matches would solve that. People need to accept that nothing lasts forever and the decline in popularity is inevitable as media consumption changes. The younger generation will just watch 30 seconds long highlights on social media instead of watching a two hours long game where most of the time "nothing happens". IOC should also focus on being active on social media, have tons of "inspirational moments" clips or something similar on the most popular platforms, and convince Olympic athletes to share their everyday lives and training, that's how younger people will care about the Summer Games.
  13. I fear the worse, that IOC will fear backlash from the public, so there will be very strict rules, which means tests almost every day and immediate DSQ if a test is positive. Which would mean DSQs in the hundreds. So I went with "110-300". Obviously that's the sum of all, it won't happen at once.
  14. UEFA vice president Sándor Csányi said that ESL players won't be banned from EURO2020.
  15. I will believe that when I see it happen, this feels like a bluff, just like the ban of the ESL players from EURO2020. UEFA would immediately lose a lot of money while the top clubs would be fine, they can even play unofficial matches with each other and declare an unofficial CL winner.
  16. Is there any way to know which gymnasts are eligible for the 2+2 European quotas here?
  17. I am not saying that they are too old and will die in a decade, I am saying that in the long run they will either give up on the sport or the team they are supporting, as they are clearly not the "target audience" of these top teams anymore. They are supporting something that doesn't exist anymore. The top teams aren't normal football teams anymore, they are expensive entertainment products that want to earn more and more, as that's the ultimate goal of their business. The real winner of the current professional football landscape isn't the one who the takes the trophy, it's the one that earns more money. And once the fans finally realize that, they can either choose to accept it or find another club or hobby.
  18. It's not the way things are going because the culture you are talking about will likely die out in the next decade or so for the top teams. Polling shows that the younger generation is the least resistant to the idea of the Super League because they aren't that loyal to the clubs, they are more loyal to the football stars that they like to follow on social media. Meanwhile it looks like the Champions League reform is officially happening with a swiss format and wildcards for teams that have the highest UEFA coefficient. In other words, the big clubs have won even if the Super League won't happen.
  19. That pit is already way too deep, and no one in power wants to get out of it. Look at what UEFA is planning for the future of the Champions League, it's not much better than the Super League, and I am sure about that it's not the "final form" of CL as they can turn it into the Super League even more later, and they most likely will if this proposal of ESL fails.
  20. Thankfully the Olympics will always be protected from turning into something like this simply because of how damn expensive it is. I am sure IOC would love to have a Summer Games each year, but it's impossible.
  21. I don't think that the Super League is bullshit, but that's mainly because it fits right into what I think professional football has become in Europe in the last few decades, which is why I don't really follow club football anymore. The rage is coming from people who wanted to live in an alternate reality where professional football isn't just an entertainment product like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that reality doesn't exist anymore.
  22. I also find it silly that the fans are cheering for UEFA and FIFA. This fight isn't about the proposal of the Super League, it's about who will organize it and about how much the top clubs will get. UEFA wants to still be in charge, but they are also not fools, and know that they can make more money with a Super League. UEFA will just slowly turn the Champions League into a Super League if they reach an agreement with the top clubs.
  23. The Asian and US market combined is bigger than Europe. And just like with movies, the interest of Chinese people in particular will dictate a lot of things in the coming decades in the entertainment industries, which professional sport is part of. This is also why the idea of the 2022 Winter Olympics boycott is ludicrous, as if NHL would ever let this opportunity to market their sport in China go to waste. And home fans don't provide a significant income for the top clubs, it's all about the broadcasting rights and the merchandise they can sell. Literally every loyal fan of these 12 clubs can call it quits and never watch a single match again, and the clubs wouldn't notice it financially as the stadiums would still be full once COVID is over, just with even more "fake fans" than usual.
  24. This was always just a matter of time, most people only care about the top clubs and their matches against each other, that's where the money is, both for the clubs and for broadcasters. Yeah, good luck with that. Broadcasters will prefer the super league over anything FIFA or UEFA can offer, as it can be the most watched sports league ever.
  25. Same for the men's after Sofia, the 8 spots would go to... And the next 5 for reallocation:
