  1. Maybe this is how they want to avoid having multiple athletes from the same nation in the Top4. Except they didn't do a good enough job on that front because the Koreans have avoided each other.
  2. Oh ffs, terrible draw for us in men's sabre, all 3 Hungarians are in the same quarter...
  3. https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/en/results/fencing/draw-women-s-epee-individual.htm
  4. It looks like the weather already took its first victim in Tokyo, Svetlana Gomboeva fainted during the ranking round, most likely because of the heat.
  5. Now they know how it feels like for Hungarians (weak in rowing, Top2 strongest nation in canoe sprint).
  6. Yeah, that's her medal and also her gold chance. Not much of a chance in 200 IM, but I think many still not accepted the harsh reality of that.
  7. And I would say that up to 8 gold and overall up to 20 medals it would be an optimistic, but still achievable goal. This is just madness from the only daily Hungarian sports newspaper, and sadly sets unrealistic expectations for many fans.
  8. I don't know, I haven't bought the newspaper and the article isn't on their site. I imagine that they must count 2 gold medals for her, OR they are counting 2 for Milák and 1 for Kapás. Either way, this projection only works if they are projecting 3 or 4 gold medals in swimming and at least 4 in Canoe Sprint, which is technically plausible, but also the best case scenario.
  9. Nice start for us, easily into the QF.
  10. It's Canoe Sprint. The only way there's a chance for 10 gold if we sweep women's kayak again and also win 1 or 2 in men's kayak.
  11. LOL, the Hungarian national sports newspaper went a bit insane and have this very hopeful projection for us on their front page today: 10 gold, 8 silver, 10 bronze This will only happen if literally everything goes right for us. I am not sure what they are thinking by putting the bar impossibly high, especially when our NOC on the other hand put the bar really low at 13 medals.
  12. Well, so far not a single goal, the opposite of the women's first day.
  13. Bad draw for Fucsovics in the first round against Hurkacz, but if he upsets the Polish...
  14. I mention here is as well because I think there were complaints about this here earlier: softball is now live on Eurosport 1, not just on the Eurosport Player. I don't know why they waited until the 5th match, but better late then never.
  15. Huh, so Eurosport decided to broadcast the v softball match on ES1 after they didn't have the 4 previous matches live on their channels?
  16. It feels like has no chance whatsoever to score a run, repeat of v
  17. Well, I hope that our athletes will be similarly cautious. They have to socially distance themselves from other athletes as much as possible at the Games.
  18. At this point I though IOC made some kind of a deal with NOCs for the Opening Ceremony because I found it strange that none of them announced the boycott of the Parade of Nations already. I guess NOCs are just waiting until the last minute to announce this. I will be surprised if most (or all) NOCs with over 100 athletes won't follow this example. It's a stupid idea to have a normal Parade of Nations under these circumstances.
  19. Apart from weather which only impacts outdoor sports to various degrees, all of the others happen because of human error which has been part of sport contests since their inception. A highly infectious disease that you have zero control over is not comparable to any of the other factors, it's like if the Olympics would introduce a lottery at the events which results in athletes getting DNS without doing anything wrong and anything being visibly wrong with them or any of the officiating personnel making bad calls.
  20. So our draw is.... Majoros MS - -> [22] -> [14] - This might be our best draw at the Table Tennis events Póta [30] WS - Bye -> / -> [1] - RIP in 3R, Póta would need a literal miracle to win more than one match Madarász WS - -> [18] -> [13] - Could be worse, but I wish Póta had this draw for 3R, she would have a better chance Szudi/Pergel XD - [4] -> [8] / - If somehow they would be able to have a huge upset in R16... but yeah, most likely it won't happen Hungary WT - [2] - lol, I don't have to look up who would be our next opponent, we all know what will happen against Japan
  21. The boycotts of 1980 and 1984 are still worse, but at the very least it's quite clear how the boycotts impacted the results. It will be way harder to figure out how much COVID made a difference, which countries performed badly because they lost some key athletes, and which simply had a bad Games regardless of the virus.
  22. That's awful, he had a good chance for the medal after the ECh gold. This is getting worse and worse...
  23. the coach (and brother) of Benjamin Vadnai (sailing), Jonatán Vadnai is in quarantine because he was in close contact with someone who had a positive test Jonatán Vadnai had negative tests and no one else who traveled him had to quarantine themselves. The organizers share very little information with the Hungarian team, the head coach of the Hungarian sailors said that the Japanese are not in control of the situation. It's also "special" quarantine. Which means that he can attend the trainings somehow, but only with "private transfer".
  24. At this point I know that we will get our positive case(s) eventually, I just hope that it won't be a medal favorite, or at the very least not someone who definitely won't get another medal chance in 2024.
