  1. Correct. The one quota per NOC is a new rule, this is to prevent a few nations from hogging the continental quotas. It's a bit ridiculous that Asia still gets 5 quotas, but Kyrgyzstan will be happy.
  2. In terms of Olympic qualification, the top 2 NORCECA nations, the top 2 South American nations and the next best nation qualify to the Olympics.
  3. You can say the same thing in a bunch of other events. Finding 8 competitors/teams is hard at the continent level.
  4. Fun fact: Despite not advancing to the finals in any of the relays, Poland is currently 5/5 in terms of Olympic qualification. The only nations to have 5 relays are Australia, Germany, Russia and the United States
  5. Huge upset by Great Britain, I don't think Italy is safe either. Netherlands needs to go big against Italy to have a chance.
  6. It also comes down to money, most buyers are satisfied with the level of service (and lack of other options) and for the most part, their results aren't too terrible overall. Besides, if a nation over/underperforms they can easily claim/blame that difference on the athletes. It's just not worth their time and money to create a better table that won't differ too much. If I had all the time and money in the world I wouldn't mind giving a crack at it, but alas.
  7. It's just easier for those sites to take the top 3 from each event and construct a medal table. They would have to factor in how big of a favourite each nation would be in each event and I imagine for some events they would have little data to create a proper distribution.
  8. Here's the tentative schedule (not sure how old it is) Women's race is on Saturday while the men's race is on Sunday
  9. Well it's good that our best male swimmer is going to the final
  10. after the men's 200m back it's the women's 4x200m relay
  11. But if no one competes in it then should it be an Olympic event?
  12. It's a shame that so few nations participated. Neither Great Britain nor Italy sent a team.
  13. Yeah kind of expected it would be between Singapore and South Korea for the last spot, Portugal was likely to finish last.
  14. Equal prize money? I guess she's correct since both genders would get $0
  15. Women's ice hockey can at least hide behind the men's tournament. Also ignoring the fact that it is dominated by Canada/USA participation in qualification is decent. 28 teams (including the host) attempted to qualify in 2018 which is good for a winter sport. As a comparison 37 men's teams attempted to qualify.
  16. The IOC can be a bit hypocritical with their universality rule. Look at coxed eights rowing. As much as I love the sport I acknowledge that the event is slowly dying yet it remains on the schedule.
  17. That's what happens when you are the weakest Summer Olympic sport for our nation. It's a bit of a catch-22, you need money to get better, but you won't get money until you become better.
  18. Yeah, the fact that we even qualified here is a miracle.
  19. Canada benefiting a lot from the United States. We really only deserve to qualify in women's team foil, but we are currently qualified in two other team events and the United States is 5th in another one.
  20. Well if you read the document it says there is no additional standard for relays qualifying at the World Championships. Regardless, the relay belongs to the Netherlands until they officially decline, the DSQ should have no bearing on their choice.
  21. Looking at their qualifying document it says that no additional standard will need to be met for relays qualifying at the World Championships.
  22. No the quotas were given out based on the results from heats.
  23. Nice, that makes Samoa the second Pacific nation to qualify after Fiji in rugby sevens.
  24. Big opportunity for a Pacific nation to qualify now that both Australia and New Zealand look safe. The fight between the four nations on the outside is still relevant as either Argentina or Uruguay should qualify through the Pan American Games.
  25. Don't be part of that generation with no attention span
