  1. Yes. https://www.fil-luge.org/en/news/women-s-doubles-in-the-olympic-program-for-milan-cortina-2026
  2. FIS proposed a mixed parallel slalom event in snowboarding and of course women‘s nordic combined.
  3. lol that really shows how much the FIS cares about this mixed parallel event...
  4. For the first time ever freestyle skiing will have the most events of any winter disciplines (and 15 is the most any winter discipline has ever had). Though, once again, freestyle skiing really should be split three ways (freestyle, park & pipe and cross).
  5. The IOC really did alpine snowboarding dirty by removing the parallel slalom given it requires no additional venues or athletes.
  6. Probably helped that and are two of those countries (and that generally it’s an event multiple non-European countries are traditionally competing in)
  7. https://stillmed.olympics.com/media/Documents/Olympic-Games/Milano-Cortina-2026/Milano-Cortina-2026-Event-Programme-and-Athlete-Quota.pdf Athlete quota by sports: Alpine Skiing: 306 (153 m / 153 w) Biathlon: 210 (105 m / 105 w) Bobsleigh: 170 (114 m / 56 w) Cross Country Skiing: 296 (148 m / 148 w) Curling: 120 (60 m / 60 w) Figure Skating: 142 (71 m / 71 w) Freestyle Skiing: 284 (142 m / 142 w) Ice hockey: 530 (300 m / 230 w) Luge: 106 (59 m / 47 w) Nordic Combined: 36 (36 m / 0 w) Short Track: 112 (56 m / 56 w) Skeleton: 50 (25 m / 25 w) Ski Jumping: 100 (50 m / 50 w) Ski Mountaineering: 36 (18 m / 18 w) Snowboarding: 238 (119 m / 119 w) Speed Skating: 164 (82 m / 82 w)
  8. The event I'm most surprised survived was the mixed aerials team event tbh.
  9. The IBA has been stripped from the right to organize Boxing at the 2024 Olympics. Like in 2020 a special task force will handle qualification and running boxing at the games.
  10. Men's Nordic Combined is included in 2026, but women's Nordic Combined is not. IOC says that for Nordic Combined to be included in 2030 it will require that women's Nordic Combined be developed further.
  11. New events: * Ski Mountaineering men's sprint, women's sprint and mixed relay (no individual race, so three events rather than the expected five) * Skeleton: mixed team * Luge: women's doubles * Freestyle skiing: men's and women's dual moguls * Ski Jumping: women's large hill individual The alpine skiing mixed team event is removed, alpine combined may be removed.
  12. The dreaded (at least by me) IOC press conference where they will announce the event program for these games starts in about half an hour. Lets see how bad the damage is. I used to really look forward to those.
  13. One of those days I'm glad to have two passports rather than one. But that obviously doesn't help my peers.
  14. As a queer American Thomas' concurrence is... chilling. We are clearly next on the conservative's priority list.
  15. Amazing how well Popovici is doing given his (relative) small size. It will be fun to watch him develop because he could very well get even much better.
  16. Part of me wonders if this is being floated to soften the blow when / if the IOC cuts the number of men’s nordic combined quotas in half.
  17. There are rumors that Nordic Combined could be dropped from the Olympics as soon as 2026, per ATR.
  18. Also looks like the bid is officially “British Columbia 2030”, not “Vancouver 2030”.
  19. Vancouver 2030 released the first version of it’s venue plan. Very similar to 2010 with the following changes: * Cypress Mountain is out as a venue. The bulk of freestyle events would move to Sun Peaks near Kamloops (in the BC interior) with Big Air in Vancouver proper. * Curling would move to a small arena near Hastings Park (same area as Pacific Coliseum, host for figure skating and short track, and big air)
  20. If true that’s amazingly braindead.
  21. Ya the Russian work ethic is so dominant the last time they lost a world championship (that they attended) was in the far away year of… 2018. It’s also really weird how all of Eteri’s girls seem to lost their “work ethic” between the age of 16 and 19. I think it will be very good for figure skating if this leads to women’s skaters having longer careers, regardless of whether or not Eteri skaters continue to dominate.
