    It honestly amazed me it took so long for the ICC to internally agree that trying to get T20 in the Olympics was a good idea...

    This is the second high profile track cyclist to die by suicide recently (after Kelly Catlin's death in 2019). Talk a difficult couple of years for such a tight knit sport community.

    This is the most depressing rendition of La Marseillaise I have ever heard. Normally this is a song that makes me want to drop everything and join the Foreign Legion, this rendition makes me want to take a nap.

    Japan did as well as they could given *waves at the world* and deserves a lot of credit for just putting on the Olympics at all. Good luck France, I'm sure you'll do great.

    My schedule now is getting back on my timezone and decompressing for a bit. Before I know it I'll be consumed by winter Olympics related nonsense.

    I mean there's a reason why the ceremonies are my least favourite part of the Olympics.

    I'm kind of surprised they don't do a re-enactment of the 1976 men's team foil medal ceremony every Olympics.

    This may sound harsh, but IMO if a sport depends on the Olympics it's more an argument to axe it than to keep it.

    I have a lot of qualms about the format and the rules, but I do feel like a sport with a well established pro circuit with a lot of serious competitors that was healthy before the IOC got involved really deserves some credit for obviously doing something right (see also: surfing, climbing or my favourite whipping boy, karate).

    What's kind of funny is that most people I know that follow sports casually just sort of assumed skateboarding was already in the Olympics.

    I wonder if he introduces himself as an Olympic champion from 1976 in fencing in casual conversations.

    Also reaching gender equality and modernizing the program wasn't some flight of fancy, it is a necessity to keep the Olympics relevant. ...not that I agree with all the decisions they've made. Some of it is just baffling.

    Best medal-haul ever for Canada in a non-boycotted summer games, highest placing in the medal table since 1992, first team gold in a summer sport since 1908, two big stars (de Grasse and Warner) winning their first global title... this is definitively on the upper end of what Canada is capable of at the summer Olympics.

    TBH it really seems like Brazil isn't that far away from being consistently in the top 10 of the medal standings, especially with the addition of two sports (skateboarding and surfing) where Brazil is historically one of the top country. Glad we beat you this time because I'm not sure when the next time's gonna be :P
