  1. 88 in the boys sprint, not a bad number. Just for fun, I am going to pull for Turkey, above and beyond the Swiss whom I usually support. It is also nice to see some Danes in the race.
  2. According to the IBU website, the two biathlon races are postponed.
  3. Oops, my mistake. Is there a moderator who can move it?

  5. Canada's Brendan Green and Rosanna Crawford, who are engaged, both retired after the Canmore races. Also, The President of Belarus has said that because of the poor performances by the teams he wants Domracheva and Scardino to come back and race again. "We'll buy a thousand pairs, and choose the best. The main thing that they were running. And rifles will give them, machine guns and a rocket launcher... whatever. Only that they were engaged and running, and not disgrace the country as our athletes perform at this year. It's a shame. Such a shame more was not"
  6. I think the IBU was under serious pressure to send a message to Russia. I think it will be at least 4 years when all is said and done before they get another race. I think Tyumen was the last one, but it was changed to Finland a few years ago. Next North American visit will be Junior Worlds at Solder Hollow. There was one year a bout a decade ago when they went Presque Isle and Ft Kent Maine two weeks in a row!
  7. I wonder how weak the field will be this week in Utah.
  8. The rest of the future schedule: No Russia at all. I do not know how far out the IBU usually makes the schedule, but this one seems to be specifically far out to deny Russia an even to host for a long time. 9. As a US based fan, I love the idea of the races in North America. What the IBU is doing is trying to build the sport in the Americas. I get it from an economic perspective. What they are faced with is an odd schedule. Because of the distance, it makes most sense to have two weeks in one. Because of the distance, going there every season is a little hard. Because of the three set races in December, the timing gets tricky. I guess that you could make them the last two races after the World Championships. That would work, and would actually get a higher quality field. And for what it is worth, the next two seasons schedule is already set - No Russia for the World Cup, or the IBU Cup for that matter. They are even shut out from the Youth Cups as well.
  10. Not sure where else to put this, The Canadian Winter Games start in about a week. Quite a few events, including the Biathlon competition will stream live here - https://canadagames.live/ 19 and 20 Feb for the events, at least that is as best as I can make it out.
  11. Are the IBU Cup races streamed anywhere? Or just the highlights?
  12. Another nice article, this one better than the first that I posted. Here is a picture of the Bosnian team. Check out the hair on the young lady on the bottom right.
  13. Only 12 teams actually finished the race, and a Norway victory was all but assured with 3 legs to go. Max Durtschi 5-6 for his leg. Ouch!
  14. Wow, the Swiss are shooting terribly today. 5+10 after 4 shoots is really bad.
  15. There were quite a teams that struggled with ski speed Either the wax, or the cold effecting the athletes, or both. Lots of slower than anticipated times.
  16. Not a great day for the US. Claire Egan was decent. S Dougherty did OK. I would be ecstatic for s top 10 in either relay tomorrow.
  17. I think the best biathlon results will be on the IBU datacenter. No idea if the race data will be streamed lived or just results.
  18. Does the winner of the short individual win a crystal globe? It is a new event.
  19. From this article, it looks like the Ukraine will not be sending any athletes.
  20. OK, a little more about the Russian rifle situation. Russian press agencies say that the United States prevented the rifles from traveling due to the lack of a license. Here is a direct quote from President of the Russian Biathlon Union (SBR) Vladimir Drachev “The organizers of the stage are clearly to blame for this overlay. A few hours before departure, we learned that the Americans had not made an authorization to import weapons” Here is some more info. I am not sure who is to blame, but it does add a little more spice to this and next weekends events. Also - Laura Dahlmeier has announced that she will race in Canmore, but not in Soldier Hollow. One more thing - Good Q&A with the Gow Brothers.
  21. From here: Many OptionsRegarding the Thursday individuals, Saturday relays and Sunday mass starts, Nunar added, “We have many options like start times, course adjustments that are available if necessary. Thursday looks like the best day of the week with the morning low at minus 18 and the high around minus 14. After that it warms up: most importantly there will be less wind. The wind makes the cold temperatures even worse. We will just see how things go and present any ideas to the coaches at our meeting on Tuesday. They all understand the conditions and like us, just want the most fair and safe conditions for the athletes.”
  22. You are correct that the article really needed a good editor. I remember the Swiss did not have their rifles last season when they did the night at Schalke. It made a massive difference. Switching topics. The last race I remember cancelled was about three or four years ago when a light pole at the range in Russia came down. I would they combine days in Canmore before any cancelations due to weather. Have they ever held two races on the same day?
