    Tennis:

This week she defeated  Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4 6-4 in the first round, before progressing to the quarterfinals when  Camila Osorio was forced to withdraw. It was a great match, but ultimately Jasmine Paolini was able to end Boulter's 7 match winning streak 0-6 6-3 6-3.
Heather Watson returned to the tour after long layoff due to injury. She safely navigated the qualifying draw before losing to 7th seed  Jessica Bouzas Maneiiro 3-6 1-6.

In the doubles, Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool were the top seeds and got through to the semifinals where they lost to eventual champions and 3rd seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten 4-6 6-7. Given the difficulties the finalists had in getting out of Dubai, perhaps the rest of the Brits don't have too many regrets about exiting the tournament early.

Excellent skeleton results so far this season. 5 golds and 9 medals from 9 races. The men are racing tomorrow, but the Women now have a short Christmas break before the season resumes in Winterberg in Germany on January 2nd.

On the women's side, currently GB are occupying the second of the two slots for 3 Olympic qualifiers, which would be an amazing achievement given the men's squad have been comparatively stronger the last olympic cycle.

The way the qualifying system works is the top two nations with the 3rd highest ranked athlete are allocated 3 quotas.  are almost certainly going to take one of those slots, leaving GB in a battle to secure the second.

Currently GB's 3rd ranked athlete is Freya Tarbit in 12th on 488 points.
The 's 3rd best is on 440 in 19th, although I believe she has more minor races counting towards her ranking which should be outweighed by world cup points.
     no 3 is ranked 26th on 348.

Behind that the competition drops off rather steeply.

GB are in a good position and I hope they take all 3 quotas, as all 3 athletes are capable of medalling on their day. I will note however, that the next tracks are much more drivers tracks, so the start boost of the British athletes may not be a beneficial, but the same will be of the Chinese and Americans.

Women get their 2027 EuroBasket qualifying campaign underway with 3 matches coming up in the next week or so.

On Wednesday, they will face  in Manchester before travelling to Vienna next Saturday to face  and then Bergen on the following Tuesday to take on .

EuroBasket 2027 will be key qualifying route for LA Olympics and whilst they shouldn't have any great difficulty getting through to the second qualifying round - GB are the top seed in their group and only need to finish in the top 2 to progress - hopefully they are able to put in stronger performances than they did in last year's tournament.

5 individual medals was exactly the same as Paris, despite injuries to two of GBs best prospects, Caudrey and Kerr. Hunt's medal was a revelation, wightman's a vindication, while KJT's felt a bit valedictory, although O'Dowda had an excellent two days - the big news out of it, however, was the continued rise of Anna Hall and Kate O'Conner - the event felt very much like a signal for the end of what has been the Nafi-KJT era, or even the Nafi-KJT-Ennis era if you want to go all the way back to 2009.

The relays were the issue. They were, let's be honest, appalling. I could be mistaken, but as i understand it MHS has some mental issues that make relays a bit of an ordeal unless he runs first leg. The wheels certainly came off at this champs, but if they are coming off, this is the champs for it to happen. I would still add Charlie Dobson to your list for this cycle, in a similar position to Burgin. I would add Amber Anning to that.

I have felt like we're on the downslope with both Daryll and Dina for a while now. I'm not sure how in love with the sport Dina is any more, her other passions seem to be asserting themselves, and the move to America really only set her back, after enjoying the culture to begin with. Daryll has not had a great couple of years, and Imani seems to be an injury casualty now. That generation may have had its time, not unlike the great Gemili-Hughes-Mitchell-Blake cycle a few years earlier...
