  1. Commonwealth Youth Games started yesterday in the Bahamas who replaced Saint Lucia as hosts. Here are results. Not all countries are competing (Brunei Darussalam, Cameroon, Falkland Islands, Montserrat, Seychelles and Swaziland are not). A lot of countries skipped the World Youth Championships in athletics to compete here so hopefully its a high level of competition. Also some countries (like Canada) did not send teams in all sports like they usually do.
  2. Crystal Emmanuel broke the Canadian record in the 200 metres on Tuesday, rewriting one of the oldest records on the books. The 25-year-old from Toronto sprinted to a time of 22.50 seconds at a meet in Ireland, breaking the record of 22.62 set by Marita Payne-Wiggins — the mother of NBA star Andrew Wiggins — in 1983. Hopefully a final in London, and possibly a medal !?
  3. I can double check for you when I get home, which will be early morning your time

  5. Pan American Championships in Miami, USA http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Weightlifting/Events/2017/International/SrPanAms/Start-List
  6. Here is a great article on the possible makeup of Canada's men's hockey team for PyeongChang: http://www.tsn.ca/some-unfamiliar-names-may-play-for-canada-at-olympics-1.715158 Doesn't look as bad as I expected
  7. Women's baseball has no chance of getting on the program. There are like 12 ranked teams and women's softball is already in. However women's baseball did make an appearance at the 2015 Pan American Games (however it won't in 2019).
  8. This is a very solid concept. For the 2015 Pan American games there were 17 cities with venues and the distances were further spread a part. Transporation was an issue but overall the games were a success. Considering some venues are 2 hours away for Tokyo 2020, this seems like a normal concept now.

  10. The 2017 North American Indigenous Games begin in Toronto today. Website:http://naig2017.to/en/
  11. The IAAF is basically wanting to create a continental championship for this age group
  12. Azerbaijan could host tomorrow... but the IOC seems to favour the big names (Almaty would have won 2022 if that weren't the case) or ones that have a really compelling story. Azerbaijan does not check of either, and if there is another bid they will likely lose.
  13. Canada has a mix of new/old divers on the team including a 14 year old (hopefully he is our next Despatie, but he is only competing in a mixed event).
  14. There are so many reasons why Qatar shouldn't host, and it never made the shortlist (ie doesn't meet the standards)... so I don't see the IOC gravitating to them.
  15. Toronto forgo 2024 to bid for 2028 (at least that was the plan). As someone from the city it is frustrating but at the same time if you snooze you lose.
  16. At the 2017 FIBA Under-17 Women's Oceania Championship beat 166-3
  17. No High divers from Serbia... Also Omega timing has list of synchro swimmers/divers up.
  18. Both LA and Paris said they would not bid for 2028, so this decision by the IOC is smart. Its not like there are cities lining up to host...
  19. +2.5 100m is harder to medal in.. I say relay/200m for men. Drouin might not be in form so that's difficult to gauge. There might be a surprise from Mo Ahmed in the 5000m...
  20. Emmanual had 22.55 in the women's 200, which would have been a national record but the wind was too strong. Drouin did not compete as he pulled out due to an injury to his Achilles (he will compete in London). Barber had a disappointing 5.40m showing and Nettey had 6.23m. To qualify for worlds you need the standard (at any event) + finish in top 2 at nationals to qualify. For a lot of the events only 2-3 have the times/distances so they didn't need to push the limit.
  21. Does anyone know if the traditional tournament is being replaced by 3x3?
  22. De Grasse has a slightly wind aided time of 19.96 in the 200, but pretty much all other results were enough to qualify for worlds (top 2 and have standard). Emmanual had 22.55 in the women's 200, which would have been a national record but the wind was too strong. Watson (54.97) and Crew (18.32m) broke the championship records as well...
  23. Better choice of wording would be inconsistent. Here is one example But this event was well organized and had a lot of attention to detail, which I found surprising considering they had only 90 days to prepare for it.
