It is utterly unbelievable that a country that has an absolute gem like 'Dear Home' on it's list of entries has another song as must succesful ever :(

Hey! Don't you come after Bastian Baker :stop: I loved "Dear Home" and scored it pretty well, but "Follow The Wind" is probably the song that impacted me most throughout the entire 10 editions of TISC :p

Definitely be good to clear this up.

My preference has always been giving the winner first refusal, followed by second and third place. If all 3 decline then an open selection where individuals or groups of members are invited to nominate themselves as the next host. However, there should be some minimum eligibilty requirements, firstly the country should have competed in the contest that had just taken place, secondly the specific member bidding should have participated in at least 2 contests and thirdly member should be active across the entire forum, not simply popping up twice a year for TISC. If all these conditions are met then I'm happy with a random draw or some convoluted game of keys to decide the host, but definitely not a vote by members.

I agree on that about prioritising potential new hosts and avoiding popularity votes or polls.

So I was thinking about bringing back the game of luck "Gridlock" to determine the host if the winner refuses the hosting rights.

And I would try to build in some sort of fairness for first-time hosts and the second and third placed finishers at the previous contest so that they have a better chance of winning the hosting rights than previous hosts.

So how might it work?

  • All parties interested in gaining the hosting rights for the next TISC Open would declare their interest and a list of candidates would be formed by the end of a specified deadline.
  • To decide which candidate wins the hosting rights, we conduct a random game of luck on the forum. We would bring back the game "Gridlock" which was a fun way of deciding the host in the past.
  • The candidates would be divided into different heats in which they try to win a place in the final. The heats would be divided in a way to favour potential first-time hosts, with more final places on offer in those heats. One heat will contain all the previous hosts, with only one place in the final available from that heat.
  • If the second and third placed finishers at the previous contest wish to enter the race, they will automatically be awarded a place in the final in order to reward their good ranking at the previous TISC. If the second and third placed nations do not enter the race, then 1 automatic place in the final will be awarded to the highest placed finisher at the previous contest.

I believe this is a fair system to allow everyone to have a chance of hosting, but gives priority to the medal winners at the previous TISC and to first-time hosts. But no one is excluded.

Road to TISC Open 2018

In today's penultimate edition of our "Road to TISC Open 2018" series we showcase the TISC histories of another 5 nations.... Serbia, Venezuela, Great Britain, Egypt and Czech Republic. We begin today with Serbia, who upon hosting the TISC Open in 2014, set an astonishing record of having a 7-member jury! I wonder when we will ever see so many jury members from one nation again.
