Either way I hope Aoife Gormally gets her chance. She put in a fantastic performance at the Europeans finishing 7th and would be our first female shooter since 1996 and she is high up in the rankings. Derek on the other hand has had his chance at multiple Games and is not currently very high in the rankings. I wish we could take both of course!

I agree wholeheartedly. Derek has been a great servant to Irish sport and enjoyed some success and a few Olympic trips

I’d like to see Aoife be rewarded for her recent improvements

The women’s Trap is a reallocation of a host country spot while the men’s trap is a reallocation of a tripartite spot. I think the host country spot takes precedence

can someone explain me the "Double starters quota" athletes in mixed events qualification? who will be those athletes?

Say, an athlete A gets a quota place in 10m Air Rifle Men. Now, if he has achieved MQS in any other event, he can start in those events as well as long as there are max 2 athletes per NOC in an event. This is the Double starters rule.

For Mixed Team events, if an NOC has a male shooter and a female shooter with required MQS, they can be entered as a team in the Mixed Team event.

I am not sure... These probably aren't final (NED will likely decline), but I still wouldn't know if the ISSF would allow nations to choose their reallocation.

    • Out of curiosity, I listened to a few podcasts about Turkmenistan today. This country has very large deposits of natural gas. In the 1990s, a simple a ordinary people lived quite well there. In the early 21st century, Turkmenistan signed several unfavorable gas deals with China and has practically gone bankrupt since then. 1/3 of the population (about 2 million out of 6 million- mostly young people) emigrated, mainly to Turkey, India, etc. The future of this country is blacka and uncertain. I don't know what other options they have? Russia, Turkey, the EU? Of course, in terms of selling gas. Perhaps sanctions of Russia's and isolation due to the war in Ukraine would be a chance for Turkmenistan to establish economic relations with the EU, but the new president would probably have to loosen and a little liberate up his country's domestic politics.
