Oh dear, Niyonsaba slashes through a strong 5000m field again.

Strange thing is that the Drummers of :BDI used to be a highlight of the Brussels meet, yet the one time they were needed…

Nboma wins the 200m easily.  Oh dear again.

And it doesn’t seem as easy for World Atheltics as they could well see Semenya back after the evidence correction stuff will probably see another appeal over the 400-1600. And then trying to use those scientists for other distances is just asking for CAS to overturn them.

Two day Diamond League final coming up starting tonight and continuing tomorrow.  Tonight's events are on a special city-centre facility for the field events and the two 5000m races, which won't be official counted for records.  Tomorrow's events are a throw-back to the old "Olympics in a Night" three hour format of the classic 1980s Zurich meets at the Letzigrunde stadium.

The good news is that the stupid and hated "best of one attempt" format for the field events will NOT be used.  Here's the full schedule.

Don’t think anyone can get their heads round this 5000m track: just going to wait for the bell & race it out, I reckon.

There is surely no way these shot performances should be valid for record purposes because they are throwing from an elevated platform. :hairpull:

Niyonsaba wins that pretty easily.  :dunno: We can look forward to seeing her at the Worlds in Oregon.

The whole thing about the Diamond League rankings being useless and only the final counting to decide the champion didn't exactly work in terms of attracting great fields everywhere, did it?

Especially in the men's long jump and women's shot put it truly felt like some random midweek event somewhere on a far-away field hidden from view :p

The women's high jump though :cheer:

Russia dominating as usual. US should ban harder so they can win some. :coffee:

Americans have a huge incentive to go for the win here - automatic pre-qual to a home World Champs.  It’s so difficult to peak twice in six weeks.

Siderova joins Isinbayeva & Morris as the only 5.00 female PVers

    • Draws are now out: https://ausopen.com/draws   As usual, some intriguing first round matchups.   ‪Osaka/Garcia and Gauff/Kenin are the main ones that stand out on the women’s side, while for the men it’s Hurkacz/Griekspoor, Dimitrov/Fognini and Monfils/Mpetshi Perricard, but there’s so many quality matchups that it’s tough to only pick a couple. I’m interested to see who Fonseca draws as a Q, that’ll be a matchup players want to avoid.
