The Irish team has focused on relays at this championships as they look to qualify a relay team for the first time since 1972

The heats of the 4x200 free are over and currently Ireland lie in 15th place in the Olympic rankings.  In the final tonight, Belgium and Spain will be looking to beat Ireland's time of 7:12:73

Belgium are currently 16th, Spain are 18th. (New Zealand are 17th). Unlikely Ireland can find enough to beat the times ahead of them (israel 7:11:99, Poland 7:12:01)

To recap here's the bottom of the rankings

13 :ISR 7:11:99

14 :POL 7:12:01

15 :IRL 7:12:73 (in final)

16 :BEL 7:12:99 (in final)

---

17 :NZL 7:13:06

18 :ESP 7:13:08 (in final)

And :FRA ???  7.10.44 (In Final)

I forgot the auto qualifiers in 4x200m!  So of course Ireland can't catch :ISR and :POL !!

Anyway here's the rankings for those not qualified

1 :HUN 7:07:67 *

:FRA 7:10:44

3 :IRL 7:12:73

4 :BEL 7:12:99

5 :NZL 7:13:06

6 :ESP 7:13:08

*I assume that the time earned by the team "Magyar Valogatott" can count for :HUN If not, then they're they're now behind everybody. Perhaps one of our Hungarian posters would know for sure.

Unless someone made an error at the Hungarian federation, that time counts for us, we had that time trial at the national championships to qualify for Tokyo in men's 4x200m.

So for Ireland it's about finishing ahead of Belgium or Spain and ideally both this evening?

Fun fact, starting in Tokyo, canoeing sprint will allow 2 boats for singles and doubles. :p

NICE, then we will be able to not qualify double the amount of times, YES

Honestly, the amount of boats they cut in this OG and destroying the sprint disciplines really effin doomed us.

If you are proposing to do this at the Olympics which events would you cut to accommodate the additional athletes that your suggestions would entail?

Don't ask me this question, I would delete half of the Olympics to accommodate more boats

Lithuania has been really struggling with qualifications for Olympic Games recently. With canoe sprint and rowing bombing out, there is finally good news with Andrius Šidlauskas swimming a qualifying time in the 200m Breaststroke.

Now he's in two disciplines and he's probably the starter of our relay as well.

    • In the summer- yes, there were such cases, but I wrote more about winter sports, saying that we have almost no one like that- except maybe for ice hockey, where we won't chance to win anything anyway, and I believe that as the organizing country, we should be motivated to win a lot of medals. Do you remember how many medals Russia won in Sochi in 2014 thanks to naturalizations: Viktor Ahn and Vic Wild. Of all the people you mentioned, only 1 won an Olympic medal in 2024, Andy Diaz (bronze), or maybe Antropova, but that was the all team, and we won 40 of them... Quite a low percentage, right?
    • Got Post 2 Updated with the latest results.   Some Jordan Stolz facts for you (could be inaccurate, but it's by my quick calculation) He has entered 19 races. He has earned 14 Gold Medals. (5 out of 7 500m, all 4 1000m, all 4 1500m, and one Mass Start...had he ever done that?) He has earned 2 Bronze Medals. (Mass Start and 500m) He has only not medaled 3 times (twice in Mass Start, once in 500m).   Dang.
    • Italy is not less cynical than any other. Jorginho, Kamil Rychlicki, Andy Diaz Hernandez, Zane Weir, Nick Ponzio, Donte DiVincenzo (no they're not Italian, as much as Fournier-Beaudry is not French). I could probably go on.

    • Pinheiro has connections to Brazil, becouse his mather is a Brazilian, so there's no problem with that. The problem is more of a moral one, because Norway trained him and thanks to them, he became a great skier. If he lived in Brazil, he wouldn't have had that opportunity. Nevertheless, Norway probably doesn't have much of a problem, as it has many other excellent skiers in various disciplines. In Colturi's case, she had 0 connetions to that country- Alb, so praising it is a bit of a stretch, especially if you then accuse Italy of doing the same to others.   Antropova has connetions with Italy in that she trained there, when her was  about 13-14 years old, so we had some influence on her current form. Italy certainly did more for Antropova's career than Albania did for Colturi in the past.
    • Well, many people here tend to be rigid on this topic; it's even difficult to convince anyone that athletes like Lucas Pinheiro (who was born in Norway but has a Brazilian mother) and Tati Weston-Webb (who was born in Brazil but moved to the USA early in life) are actually Brazilian. I've seen many comments belittling their achievements, ranging from saying they aren't really Brazilian to comments that, given their countries of origin, they wouldn't amount to anything and wanted the easy way out (which, for these two athletes, obviously wouldn't be true).
