Ahmad Saber Hamcho - 871 Ibrahim Hani Bisharat - 824 Ramzy Al Duhami - 684 Syria and Jordan have no competition, but one of them could miss out if Qatar fails to keep its team... Saudi Arabia failed to qualify for the second Olympics in a row. Really weird, considering they won a team bronze medal in 2012! Interestingly, all those Damascus competitions could prove very costly for Syria, as Bisharat might be able to overtake Hamcho on December 30th (of all days). But then again, even winning both remaining Damascus competition might not be enough (if too few athletes are entered). Interesting stuff. There's been a lot of back room strategizing so I wonder if Syria knows this and will encourage some athletes not to participate... Any word on Qatar/Ukraine athletes participating between now and the 31st (or do you think they will go the rule 5.1 route?)

I don't remember seeing Qatar/Ukraine on entry lists in recent weeks, so most likely they went for 5.1 route. Apparently the list of MER athletes hasn't been updated since November, so we may have to wait a bit. #banbestmen

Rule 5.1: "If an NF finds it impossible for its Athlete/Horse combinations to reach the Minimum Eligibility Requirements as above, the FEI will upon request of the NF, send a Foreign Assessing Delegate at the expense of the NF to assess the level of performance, at a FEI approved Competition conducted in accordance with the protocol established in FEI Jumping Rules, effective as of 1 January 2019, Annex VIII, paragraph 8. This Competition will consist of one round with the dimensions as laid down on a course plan provided by the FEI. Athletes/Horse combinations scoring eight (8) penalties or less in this round will be considered to be eligible. The FEI Foreign Delegate will advise the NF and the FEI on the granting of eligibility (Minimum Eligibility Requirements). If an Athlete/Horse combination has more than eight (8) penalties but shows a very good performance otherwise over the course, the Foreign Assessing Delegate may let the combination repeat a similar course. But in no case may an Athlete/Horse combination become eligible if they scored more than eight (8) penalties in the second round. The NFs of the eligible Athlete/Horse combinations will be informed by the FEI immediately." NearPup

dcro 10,182 Posted December 29, 2019 Author #369 Share Posted December 29, 2019 Verliefden (somewhat expectedly) gets 2s and 3s for flying changes today... It's over. Quotas for Austria and France. #banbestmen
dcro 10,182 Posted December 29, 2019 Author #370 Share Posted December 29, 2019 It was a total meltdown for Belgians in fact. Instead of chasing personal best scores, Verliefden scored 68%, while Roos retired right at the end, after many, many mistakes (I had her on 61% in the spectator judging app). Nevertheless, they will get an individual spot, as will Switzerland. #banbestmen
