Women's Singles is really close and anybody out these 9 players can win medals - Carolina Marina (defending champion), PV Sindhu (reigning world champion), Tai Tzu Ying (current World No 1), Okuhara and Yamaguchi (home advantage), Chen Yu Fei, Ratchanok Intanon, An Se Young and He Bingjiao

well, Badminton is one of the few sports I don't follow regularly (actually, I normally only watch world champs and olympic finals)...

so, I picked those who most likely are the pre-competition favourites because they are the reigning world/Oly,pic champions and/or on top of the world ranking...

so, in the women's singles I went with Carolina Marin (I remember her dominating in Rio and I know she won so many titles she deserves a lot of consideration), Chen Yufei (because China is China...and in badminton this means a lot) and Nozumi Okuhara (home advantage, good ranking and I saw on the Japanese TV that they always dedicate a lot of space to her, so i assume they expect a top result in their home Olympics)...

in the women's doubles I just picked the 2 Japanese pairs because they're on top of the world ranking and because of the home advantage) and the Korean pair with Lee So Hee (because they're the top ranked pair not coming from either Japan and China...and I'd like to see a good spread of medals also in this sport not to get bored to death)...

    • There is a saying to never trust a Russian in gymnastics. Well, ex-Russian turned Bulgarian Elvira Krasnobaeva is transferring now to Armenia.   The "official" reason is for personal, family matters, but in reality it's most likely because she wasn't selected for Paris, which angered her parents. Even though she is only 16, had her breakthrough just this year and started making mistakes, when they amped up the difficulty.   Our Federation's President Iliana Raeva said today, that she received calls also from France and Azerbaijan about Elvira's mother basically auctioning her. Raeva mentioned, that Krasnobaeva was going to be a vocal point in the next Olympic cycle, but now she can hit the road and missed her chance to ever compete for Bulgaria, even if she wanted to in the future.    We are also going to make a new Group from next season. After the disappointment in Paris, 4 out of the 5 girls announced their retirement.
    • true, but was expecting India to get troubles from Australia, not from New Zealand, and specially not by being bowled out. Makes the group phase interesting though
    • The 4th best team in the world beating the 3rd best team in the world is not a huge surprise though.
    • I’ve been recently introduced by some friends to cricket (or the t20 version of it, at least) and actually liked it so I’m following the World Cup that’s happening during this month
