I don't care if it worked, 4 out of 8 teams are going to qualify for the Olympics (and the other teams coming from the OQTs also depending on ranking) through a ranking which is flawed, open to manipu

During next three weeks, we will have a close battle between Romania and France for the 3rd quota - direct qualification to Tokyo 2020. and between Mongolia and Iran for the 4th quota.

Unfortunately it is very difficult to follow the changes in points.

Is there anyone with insight information on points?

Japan can pick one quota as hosts and take it away from 4th nation.

 

Given that Mongolia is currently 4th nation in both events, they stand to lose one of their teams...

The last time I checked the ranking couple days ago Iran had something like 6500. now it's 6760. with this rate they will catch Mongolia !

 

but this is not something to be proud of . this is cheating IMO :wall: Iran women's team is TOOOO weak to be 6th in the world. they are just playing smart and having some local events just to collect more points.

 

this is the only quota (in all sports) I hope Iran doesn't win because they simply don't deserve it. :thumbdown:

I don't think Japan can pick. the best ranked Japanese team qualifies. right now men's team is 8th. women's team is 11th. so it goes to the men's team at least for now.

      Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
