Not great, not terrible result for Mika in today's 5k classic in Imatra, 249 points. That lowers her total a little (her 290 gets pushed out), but if Serbia and Croatia happen, it will end up not counting anyway. New situation, with again the reminder that due to Mika still lacking the sprint criteria, as of yet it is still only between Jaque, Bruna and Duda for the two tickets:

All in all, the trip to Imatra improved Mika's total points by 100 points or so, which is all not too much of a big deal and doesn't really change the situation much.

Anyone here have any idea where to possibly find start lists or results for Belarussian FIS races? Other than the FIS website itself :p

Facebook?

I remember it being the quickest source for BLR equestrian federation events, which was surprising since I thought FB is banned there. :p

Interesting, I'll try and figure out who or what is on Facebook, related to these races :d

Edit: they seem to be...not very active, to say the very least :p

More puzzles for Brazil: Zlatibor and Ravna Gora are said to be likely to be cancelled, this week's races in St Ulrich aren't happening for them as the coach and manager had completely missed the big red letters in the invitation saying "This event is for OPA nations only"

If Zlatibor and Ravna Gora are indeed cancelled, the 11 and 12 January races in Zakopane (Poland) will be very important, for Bruna at least. With the different restrictions everywhere, let's see how getting to Zakopane will work (and back to Austria after that)...

Zakopane hosts the ski jumping World Cup on 15th/16th so there should be no trouble getting into Poland. Our right-wing government won't apply any strict measures before the single most important winter sport event in this country :p

And since I have no clue and only just started searching, is Zakopane a bit easy to get to? Like, the ski area? :p

Main option seems to be a 'Gettransfer' ride (sort of like a taxi), which isn't cheap, but better than a 17 hour train trip...

Vienna to Krakow by train is like 8 hours?  After that there is literally ONE road to Zakopane. Should take way over 2 hours in winter. By train it's maybe close to 3 hours.

And Obertilliach (where they are staying) to Vienna is another 6-7 hours, hence the total time :p

Too bad the team is probably not going to Zakopane anyway (it looks as though the team's coach/manager gave up on his athlete), that would have been easier. We'll see what the 'transfer' options give tomorrow, after a last-ditch call to the St Ulrich organizers :d

These points show the situation fairly clearly. Bruna needs a distance race to improve her points, Duda needs one or two sprints to really make a change.

And you're really not going to get a 'team coach' favouring one athlete over the other any more obviously than the Brazilian one at this very moment. Take these two events:

Slavic Cup Zakopane, 11 and 12 January (sprint and distance)

Balkan Cup Zlatibor, 12 and 13 January (distance and sprint)

They are now actually planning to go to both of these events.....and only do the sprints! "But I need a distance race" is literally being answered with "but she needs sprints, so we're doing sprints"

It really can't get any more blatantly obvious. Both Zakopane and Zlatibor aren't entirely sure of actually happening yet neither, so deciding where to go on your own is a hard dilemma to say the least....(since you simply can't trust going with the team, they/the 'coach' are not above actively sabotaging you)

Working your ass off for four years and in the end it's going to come down to incredibly dirty games being played by someone who is supposed to be there for the entire team. It is truly beyond infuriating.

    • Fewer people do do this sport compared to the 90s, less money is spent on it, etc. In the case of women, at some point this sport was almost abandoned because of the belief that it was impossible to beat Scandinavia ( the times of Norwegian domination with Bjoergen and Johaug at the forefront). Only in the last 2 years has Markus Cramer been hired, who is gradually rebuilding the men's and women's teams. Suffice it to say that the last medalist of the World Championships for Italy in the women's was Arianna Follis in 2011... I will also remind you that in 2022 Pellegrino and de Fabiani trained with the Russian team, because the rest of the Italian team was in such poor shape that they couldn`t train together
    • Well that is a totally different question  I too have wondered what happened to Italian cross-country and how there is no one coming for so many years. But it shouldn't take away from the sports where progress has been made.
    • Where to Watch guide.  Discovery plus in most of Europe       https://www.ucitrackchampionsleague.com/watch-the-races
    • Appetite grows with eating. Especially since it's not like we develop in every winter sport... For example, 20 years ago we were a powerhouse in cross-country skiing and now we have only 1 Pellegrino (34 age) and a few talented youngsters. And let's remember that our performance in Turin was objectively weak for us: only 11 medals in total. Now, when I hear that we will to win 2O+, some discipline must definitely add medals and also compensate for the losses in cross-country skiing, for example.
    • The problem is that this mixed team has never played together since then. There was talk of personal obstacles. I don't know how it`s now.
    • Well that explains why she is wearing more clothes with every passing day.   Nevertheless that team is still one of the best in the world and is a vast improvement on what Italy was doing 10-20 years ago.
    • Any idea where a full schedule can be found yet? I remember last seasons the website was always godawful in terms of providing that basic kind of information..
    • Constantinis team have made huge improvements since 2022 even if they are not best yet. And Constantini never was world leading in mixed doubles before Beijing olympic either so it is not like she really have lost anything since 2022 either, except not being able to repeat that success.
    • She had health problems yesterday. Nevertheless, after the gold in mixed doubles with Mosaner in 2022, I counted a bit more on her development. I still think that the biggest chance for us in 2026 will be the mixed team, rather than our teams.
    • I don't know who Italy should field for the doubles? Sinner has the greatest individual strength but he probably doesn't train with anyone on the team. Last year Sinner played 2 doubles with Sonego in the Davis Cup (two wins) but this year Sonego isn`t in the squad. On the other hand the Bolelli-Vavassori doubles are well-coordinated, as is the Argentine one, but individually these players don't even mean as much as Sinner's 1 hand. For me the Sinner/Berettini option is possible but the question is: did they train together on last day?
