Early thoughts: i will vote for one of Aleksandra Mirosław (the one and only gold in Paris), Wilfredo Leon (best player in our volleyball team in Paris), Iga Świątek (another RG win but only Bronze in the Olympics) or Natalia Bukowiecka nee Kaczmarek ( the most valuable individual medal in Paris for me)

How about Niewadoma?  A heroic TdF win.

And who would you choose?

Bookies favourite at the moment is Keely Hodgkinson 800m Paris, probably mine as well.  Although there were many great :GBR golds, I think most people know that a gold in an historic athletics event is the most difficult of all.  Also, her final was absolutely at TV prime time, and the history is that most-watched event of the year usually wins. Also, there is usually a strong regional vote, and she is VERY typical of her region.

But she totally failed at the Olympics . And it’s more important to me.

Agree. That is why Natalia Kaczmarek is top 4 for me. No olympic gold but still a medal in historic athletics running event

  • 2 weeks later...

World Athletics announce the World Athletes of the Year.  Big awards go to Letsile Tebogo and to Sifan Hassan.

Women’s World Athlete of the Year: Sifan Hassan (NED)
Men’s World Athlete of the Year: Letsile Tebogo (BOT)

Women’s track: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (USA)
Women’s field: Yaroslava Mahuchikh (UKR)
Women’s out of stadium: Sifan Hassan (NED)
Men’s track: Letsile Tebogo (BOT)
Men’s field: Mondo Duplantis (SWE)
Men’s out of stadium: Tamirat Tola (ETH)

Women’s Rising Star: Sembo Almayew (ETH)
Men’s Rising Star: Mattia Furlani (ITA)

Seems a bit strange to me - OK, there is a case for Tebogo over Duplantis who can basically win every year, but for me Manuchikh beating an almost 30 year old WR beats winning Olympic Marathon Gold.

Hassan and Tebogo named World Athletes of the Year | World Athletics

    • Because of Del Bosco or Wallasch? I know that Del Bosco got only 5 WC points this season. But he is probably the oldest one so may make the last Games in his career. Wallasch made 18 points this season .....
    • It seems the whole system has been putting the quota confirmed country by country. Just now confirmed. Also wondering when quota will be shown there 😁😁
    • Due Schmidt reached an Olympic Q time in SLC at the end of the qualifying window. 6'29''76 for 6'30 in the 5000. This means he can honor his place in the MS. Denmark will have 2 skaters.
    • Hoping there will be one reallocation in men's Skicross. Daniel Paulus would really deserve his first Games despite he is over 30.
    • Brignone returns to the World Cup tomorrow in Kronplatz, but I doubt it will be a Vonn-style comeback... I'm more worried about whether she'll be in the second run On the other hand, if she were really weak, she would probably give up this season?   https://www.instagram.com/p/DTsPi0yCNBG/
