Yeah, this needs to be controlled fast, before more shops are destroyed by people who only see this as an opportunity to get free stuff, and before not only the poor dude is a victim, but the riots themselves cause victims as well..

There’s just no positive way forward. Personally, I’m not going to do a damn thing to stop anyone from protesting. I think bringing the National Guard is only going to exacerbate the problem. I’ll say that we shouldn’t run around looting and burning buildings.

I wonder what will happen to the policemen involved in the arrest and common people's opinion on the protests/riots? @Olympian1010

They’ll probably be let off the hook. They always are. It doesn’t matter how much evidence we have, it’s never enough for a jury to punish a police officer.

A majority believe that the protests are valid, but the riots and looting will turn some away for sure.

Exactly. This has been a long standing tradition in the US. Every time there is a situation, it is used as an excuse for people to rob stores and take anything they want for free and trash places for fun. I'm sure many of them don't care for the poor guy that died, they just see an opportunity for themselves, because the police won't do anything.

Decade after decade, when you have a US riot, you better know that your local normal persons store/business/car is the one at fault.

Yeah, but every single piece of history has shown that they very much will do exactly that, and use the 'opportunity' to steal stuff. Really, you can be rightfully incredibly angry at what happened, which was an utter atrocity, but you really don't need to be running on the street with a brand new huge-ass TV you picked out of a store to make your point.

Hard to say, but at least when you look around on places like Reddit, you see there is a shitload of police officers reacting to this and pretty much all of them can barely even describe how horrified they are at things like this happening. Because unlike what some people want you to believe, it's not a majority of police officers who think this is ok to do. Most just really don't, rightfully so of course.

This smells rather yellow-vesty as well. "We're mad at the government, so we're going to firebomb your shop and flip and then burn your car."

I think this actually is more of consequence of our broken economic system. It also gets politicians attention when nothing else does. It doesn’t make it right, but it does show anger people want to pretend doesn’t exist.

The government isn’t and hasn’t done shit for years though, so I feel like people have a right to be pissed. Like I said, it’s unfortunate they punished people not directly involved in this incident, but it’s even more unfortunate that terrible governance and racial violence led us here. Action needs to be taken, but we need to be smart about. We should be out in streets from 5AM-9PM protesting, but it would be helpful for the cause if people stopped burning building down and raiding Target.
