he current English monarchy are Germans too (House of Windsor my ass, the Anglo-Saxons don't rule England since 1066).

When does one start being (in this case) British though? After over a century, should they still be called Germans? Go back far enough and one can say every single country in the world right now is ruled by a South African (or Ethiopian?).

They are ethnic Germans and nothing changes that no matter how you look at it. The Kingdom of Great Britain was formed in 1707, I believe that starts the 'British" period of history.

This is not really political, more historical, but I genuinely find it interesting when someone becomes 'ethnic' German (in this case). I mean, take your average German now and take their father, their father's father, their great-grandfather's great-grandfather and so on...at some point there's gonna be someone who never even came within 1000km of present-day Germany :p

In all fairness the Ottoman Empire and classic Islam were much more tolerant of Christians than Christians were of them.

Tell that to 1.5 millions of Armenians killed by Ottoman authorities in Armenian Genocide. Or to 500,000 Greeks killed in same time on same place. And not to mention what their rule did to Christian's nations across the Balkans

Now I know the whole Armenian Genocide thing is a bit of a 'thing' and rightfully so, but 1,5 billion is around 1000 times too high :p

Bit of a thing? Oh yes, life has never meant less than in liberal Western Europe of the 21st century who preaches islamophobia instead :wall:

Huh what? I didn't mean to say "it's a small deal", 'a bit of a thing' was meant as an understatement since it's obviously one of the largest tragedies in history.

I've got a tiny feeling you misunderstood my post.

You know what I mean, of course it's a millions not billions (it was just an typo). Point is that they almost completely destroyed entire nation and Armenians survived only in Russian Armenia (today modern day Armenia)

Well yeah, and when there's even people protesting against recognizing the genocide, you know something is wrong (and you know your propaganda is working, hello Turkey).

This by the way:

Quote

The Turkish government does not deny that many Armenians were killed by the Ottoman military, but disputes the death toll, and emphasizes that there were deaths on both sides during World War I.

For fuck's sake, yeah. "You know what? Holocaust wasn't so bad, because there were also Germans killed by Jews and resistance fighers!"

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
