The Democrats have had a great (not perfect) night, they will take the house (which will include many democratic socialists (my real party)). The Democrats have already announced that they plan to use committee power to gain Trump’s tax returns and they will most likely launch several investigations into the Trump government. The years leading to 2020 and the 2020 election will be hell for American politics (hopefully because I like political conflict) most likely. The results in state elections still show that we have race issues. However, they also show that woman have gained more political power in the United States. My state will start counting votes in 10 minutes, and I’m excited to see a few results. I’m feeling a resounding meh about the state of the government. It will be an interesting two years. Personally I think that Beto O’Rourke, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and 2 more Democrats I can’t remember the names of, will be the best challengers to run against Trump. The election has shown that Trump can hold is base though, so 2020 will be a fight.

Democrats take the House

Republicans take Senate and most governors

I voted on all state offices, one senator, the governor, my house rep (CA36 I think), 18 state judges, 11 propositions, 1 college board director for my future community college, a few different country positions, and a hospital spending bill

How the fuck do they expect millions of people to be informed enough to make a good and fair decision about important stuff like who would be the best to fill a specific position like a state judge? Does 90% of California exist of experienced law professionals? :)

I abstained to vote the judges

The GOP should really be thankful to have Trump, because without him, they would be slammed. In the Senate races, where he was mostly involved to campaign, they won everything except Nevada. Especially the (unofficial) win in Montana against Tester, of whom he has a personal grudge. Don't know how he managed to turn that one. On the other hand, The House was the Party's test and they failed to impress the people.

Also i'm calling it now, 2020 Donald vs. Beto. The guy nearly won Texas of all places. That's the best chance for the Dems for me, not those old dogs Biden and Sanders, both of whom Trump will easily beat.

I don’t know if Trump would best Biden, it would be close. He would probably beat Sanders though the debates would be worth it. I also think Kamala Harris would be a candidate to give Trump a run for his money

One thing I'm happy to see is that the voting turnout seems to be the highest turnout in many years for Midterm Elections.  Also more young voters appear to have taken advantage of early voting in outsize numbers this year, as did women. Always a positive thing that more and more citizens take part in the democratic process in their country/nation.

I have always wondered, if there was early voting here too, would the turnout be higher. Not sure what the security measures will be. :d I can't imagine voting in the mail and not knowing if my vote will even reach the place, be counted or even switched.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
    • Today : Jordan 3-0 Egypt  This team will surprise us
    • option no.2 for sure, as it's been all this shitstorm organized by the nhl owners through their embedded reporters   ps not that the north american audience looks really aware of the hockey rules and habits outside the nhl (and around their game, too, since they look not to know that just a couple of weeks ago they played 2 nhl matches on an ice sheet of the exact same size of Milan's olympic arena)
    • Are we supposed to take Daly's word for it or is this just public posturing to try and shame the Milan organizers (which they certainly deserve for all the delays) in order to threaten NHL participation?
    • Well that was a disappointing opening ceremony. Not to mention the boss is late too...   Anyway this is another victim of bureaucracy, the initial creative director quit in October and we get this kind of show.   Original plan: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17EVayTpig/
