Alessandro Miressi, just a few days after becoming European Champion over the men's 100m Freestyle, earlier today at the National Age Groups Championships improved his PB (48.00, swam in the European Final) and clocked the new Italian Record over the distance in 47.92...

new National Record also for Ilaria Bianchi ("only" 4th in Glasgow earlier this week) over the women's 100m Fly with 57.22, which would have given her a medal if clocked in Scotland...

as usual, many Italian swimmers improve their best times when it's too late and when it doesn't really count that much...:wall:

2008 Olympic open water champion Maarten van der Weijden is swimming a bit over 200 kilometer these days to get money for cancer research (the illness he had before his gold medal). He started yesterday morning around 4am and is expected to finish somewhere late tomorrow :p

Live stream:

Spoiler

He's following the 'Eleven Cities Tour' course, which is this wonderful, legendary speed skating race (which sadly hasn't been held in over 20 years already because of a lack of real winters):

It was so close a few years ago. Oh well, I'm convinced one day it'll happen again, global warming doesn't mean literally every winter will be too warm :p

Meanwhile Van der Weijden had breakfast today with a cold pizza :p He was planning to sleep 1,5 hour earlier tonight (on one of those floating 'beds'), but kept waking up so he decided to get back to swimming

I’ve been waiting to watch my first Eleven Cities Tour for years now. Stupid Climate Change :redcard:

Unlike some other people, I'm still confident it'll happen again one day :d

Sure, the chances are lower in individual years, but climate change doesn't mean there will never be a harsh winter anymore.

It is generally accepted to be the opposite

If climate change should make for more harsh winters, climate change is only hitting us in the summer... :p

    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
