What BS? You can't have three European countries in one group in a 24 team field.

How did Jamaica qualify ahead of Mexico?

Like so many people care about which continent a country is in, everyone who is not their own country's team is the enemy :p

I wonder if Hope Solo speaks up about USA drawing Sweden in group stage

Even as a US fan, she is still the worst player on Earth, the least likeable, and a national disgrace

I think group A is the strongest, followed by group B, all other groups are trash. 16 teams would be more than enough.

Group A: France ahead of Norway

Group B: Germany ahead of China/Spain

Group C: Brazil ahead of Australia

Group D: England and Japan in 1 and 2

Group E: Canada ahead of the Netherlands

Group F: USA ahead of Sweden

Quarterfinals:

England/Japan vs. Norway/Australia

France vs. USA

Brazil vs. Canada/Japan/England

Germany vs. Netherlands/Sweden

If both France and USA win their group, the 2 best teams will already face each other in the quarterfinals ...

Apparently this time the draw wasn't rigged in favor of the host.

As someone who doesn't follow the showbizz part of sports that much: what did she do wrong? :p

a short resumèe...

In 2014, she was arrested and charged with two misdemeanour accounts of assault, against her nephew and half-sister. The charges were eventually dropped just last month following a lengthy legal battle.

Then in 2016, US Soccer suspended Solo for 6 months, as well as terminating her national team contract after she referred to the Swedish Women’s team as “a bunch of cowards” following America’s elimination from the quarter-finals of the Rio Olympics. It was thought, however,  that the decision to terminate her contract stemmed from a build up of issues.

The World Cup winner had also previously been suspended in 2015 after she was the passenger in a US Soccer-owned vehicle which was being driven by her husband – NFL tight end Jerramy Stevens –  when he was pulled over under suspicion of driving under the influence.

Solo also made an unsuccessful bid for the US Soccer Presidency last February and was not shy in letting people know how she felt about previous federation vice-president Carlos Cordeiro, in a pre-election speech.

Sweden parked the bus in the Olympics and Solo had every right to go after them Mourinho-style. Alas her name isn't Mourinho so she got hang out to dry by her own federation. I suspect it was down to money after all and they used her comments as excuse to get rid of her.

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
