Now that the team qualifications are on again, I wanted to count the teams per nations that have already qualified. I am talking about only team sports, so football, basketball, volleyball, water polo, handball, field hockey, rugby, baseball, softball and 3x3 basketball. (I know that beach volleyball is technically a team sport, but I don't want to count an event where multiple pairs can qualify from the same nation, plus it's just pairs.)

 

Edit: I have changed by mind and deleted the 3x3 basketball quotas. The teams are too small compared to the other sports, so I think it doesn't have the importance as the other events in terms of team size and athlete quotas.

Canada needs one more team sport to tie our record of nine (when we hosted the 1976 Olympics).

 

We have four opportunities remaining (men's baseball, basketball, football and water polo).

 

If we can assemble our best team we'd have decent chances in basketball and football, but that's unlikely (especially since the NBA started its season later).

    • I think Julia Tannheimer will continue to perform so well on the flatter courses in Ruhpolding and Antholz, which will suit her technique. Oberhof will be more exciting, the courses are very demanding, but quite comparable to the World Championships in Lenzerheide. That's why I'm really looking forward to Oberhof this season. Anyone who can cope well with the courses in Oberhof should also be able to run at the front at the World Championships.

    • Thanks for your predictions, they are very interesting.   But here it will be a different format. Combined events - pairs of athletes, one male/female will perform in downhill and other will perform in slalom. E.g. Team SUI 1 Odermatt plus Meillard.
    • Interesting (optimistic) predictions for GB. Don‘t See Them winning 5 golds (more than China and as many as Canada). I think 3 golds are more Realistic (Brookes + 2 in curling/skeleton). Especially gold for Bankes seems To be a rather optimistic prediction, given that Casta is 11 years younger and just beat Bankes.

    • I don’t think that Scattolo would be slower/less competitive than multiple of your current starters, so as an Italian Coach I would Definitely give her a Chance in The World Cup.
