Summer Olympic Games 2020 Team Sizes

Recommended Posts

No counting the Rio Games (450+ athletes), record for :BRA was Beijing 2008 (277). It will be hard (if not impossible) to surpass this number this year. Thankfully for us, quality > quantity.

yeah, right,  missing a couple of athletes in delegations of 100+ athletes must be really a nightmare... I can really feel your pain

Continuing the previous discussion, I wanted to see how :HUN is doing compared to Rio. I am ignoring athletics and swimming for now, and some other disciplines where we don't have any quotas yet, but will likely qualify some athletes later (badminton, judo, tennis, triathlon).

          Rio Tokyo Diff
        Boxing 2 1 -1
        Canoe Slalom - 1 +1
        Canoe Sprint 15 17 +2
        Cycling Mountain Bike 1 2 +1
        Cycling Road - 1 +1
        Diving 1 - -1
        Fencing 9 10 +1
        Gymnastics Artistic 2 1 -1
        Handball - 14 +14
        Modern Pentathlon 4 2 -2
        Rowing 3 1 -2
        Sailing 5 4 -1
        Shooting 8 4 -4
        Swimming Marathon 3 1 -2
        Table Tennis 3 4 +1
        Taekwondo - 1 +1
        Water Polo 26 24 -2
        Weightlifting 1 - -1
        Wrestling 8 6 -2
          91 94

        +3

        Athletics 19 ?
        Badminton 1 ?
        Gymnastics Rhythmic - ?
        Judo 8 ?
        Swimming 34 ?
        Tennis 2 ?
        Triathlon 4 ?

So overall we are losing quotas in some individual sports, but we returned in women's handball and that will help us a lot to avoid having the smallest Hungarian Olympic team in recent years. Which means that we will have around 150-160 athlete quotas in the end. We are losing two disciplines, diving and weightlifting, but gaining four, canoe slalom, cycling road, handball and taekwondo. And maybe even five with rhythmic gymnastics.
