Three pieces of news:

  • Lawes/Morris will represent :CAN in the mixed doubles in Pyeongchang
  • :GUY is expected to make its debut at the next world mixed doubles championships :yikes:
  • Also :BRA will challenge :CAN for the last spot in the men's worlds this year. Possibly the biggest mismatch in sport this year?

Canada is sending it’s 10th or so best team against Brazil so... yes, actually.

(TBH some of the matches Nunavut will play at the next Scotties and Brier, if they send a team, are going to be bigger mismatches).

At the Scottish world trials, both their Olympic teams lost, so it will be Bruce Mouat and Hannah Fleming's rinks that will be at Worlds. In fact, on women's side, only 3 2018 Olympic teams will be at Worlds (Gold medalists Sweden, Silver medalists South Korea, and Russia). Sweden and Italy's Olympic teams on the men's side will be at worlds, Japan and South Korea are yet to be decided

:CAN Jennifer Jones goes undefeated to win the women's worlds! I hope Curling Canada changes the team selection system for future Olympics for a more overall approach versus a one and done at the trials.

She got to worlds by winning a one and done tournament, too.

I don’t think the problem at the Olympics was selection, both the teams that won the trials would have had a great chance at being selected if the selection was done by commitee or ranking. Koe was the 2016 world champion and the 2017 Canadian championship runner-up (losing to a Gushue team that was playing at home), Homan had gone undefeated in the 2017 worlds.

:SWE Team Edin had their Swedish Olympic Comitee funding cut to zero. This is apparently part of a large cutbacks to the funding of Swedish winter sports.

Oh come on. They've had awesome Olympics and as a result funding gets cut?
