painful day for Italy...

Fiamingo didn't get any medal after 3 consecutive years on the podium (world champion in 2014 and 2015, Olympic Silver medallist last year)...

her teammates showed once again that they have no talent and can't win anything at this level...

Garozzo suddenly lost his magic touch against an unknown Japanese Kid (Tokyo 2020...we're coming) and had to be happy with bronze, missing his personal "triplete" after the Olympic and the European Gold medals...

Foconi had a very good first experience at world champs, but couldn't get his reward once again against another youngster from Japan (Tokyo 2020...we're coming...in force and charging!)

and Cassarà lost his mind another time when the going gets tough, proving he's not the tough man he thinks he is...

p.s. bad news for the men's sabre team, who lost Aldo Montano for tomorrow's team event because of an ankle injury (he's already back to Italy...young substitute Dario Cavaliere has been called up to take Montano's place for tomorrow)...

on the other side, congrats to the Russian second tier guys, who got both of today's golds when nobody expected them to even pass the early rounds...

and congrats to these Japanese guys, who have been really impressive throughout the whole day and deserved the medals they finally got...

it's not beautiful to be said, but I'm also happy for the American epic fail...a bit more sportsmanship and fair play from (not all, but many of) them would be highly appreciated...

Oh poor Aldo :( I still hope for Russia-Italy final :d

OMG!!! however, then Italy destroyed France...

and also Japan in the women's foil...

so, 2 teams out of 2 in the semis...the day looks promising...

on the other pistes, USA eliminated Russia in the men's sabre quarters! :yikes:

and Abedini just destroyed Szatmari (new individual world champion) rejuvenating the Iranian team against HUN...now they start the last leg of their match basically tied (actually, really tied at 40 between Pakdaman and Szilagyi)...

Pakdaman kept the scoring tied until 42 each, but then Szilagyi's class came out and HUN won 45-42...

shame that this bout wasn't on 1 of the coloured pistes with video coverage...:wall:

so, ITA vs HUN and KOR vs USA are the semis in the men's team sabre...

and Germany finally win a high drama bout against France in the women's foil quarters...

so, we have ITA vs GER and USA vs RUS in the semis...

p.s. all men's and women's semis are scheduled at the same time (2 p.m. CET) on the 4 coloured pistes...really an awful choice...:wall:

:(:( That was close, once again. even Belarus almost beat Hungary which could make the life easier for Iran but Hungary survived two close matches.

I think our coach made a mistake in order of the players, Abedini should always play the last match. even though I can't complain about coach Peyman, he built this team from nothing all by himself

OK we are done with this World Championship, we need more luck next time.

Mens sabre ... for Germany ... at home world championships ... unbelievable. What?

This is a disgrace, Hartung should retire right away, i am pretty confident that with me instead of him in the last bout Germany would have advanced to the next round. This absolutely must have been one of the worst performances in the history of fencing and possibly even all of sports.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
