intoronto 5,638 Posted July 11, 2016 #1001 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Some surprising omissions such as Levins and Smith. This team could have easily been over 70 athletes.

I see 3 pretty safe medals in decathlon, heptathlon and mens pole vault and 4 other decent medal chances in mens high jump, mens 100m, womens Long jump and womens 800m + some minor medal chances in mens 200m, mens 4x100m relay and mens 20km race Walking. Would you be satisfied with 5 medals and 0-1 of them in Gold? I think the target is 4, but the expectation is that more than 4 is possible. Did anyone notice any weird stuff on the team selection for the women's sprint. Bingham, is relay only. George is 100mH and relay? This doesn't quite make sense to me... George makes sense, it was a big shock for her to finish top 2 in women's 100m, when she's been a hurdle specialist for years now. She was probably just getting more speed training and ended up 2nd. As for Bingham (and Hyacinthe!) not starting the 100m that is a more puzzling issue...

I'd bet Bingham will start the 100 ,she will be recovered from injury by then (hopefully). Hyacinthe has no chance for a medal in the 100, let her focus on the relay (and 200, her best event). Why would she be pressured to pull herself out if Bingham and Hyacinthe weren't taking her spot anyway

It seems like she was in it for a spot on the 4X100m team. Edited July 12, 2016 by james89
