Nope. Nobody beats Rok Benkovic as the biggest Slovenian fluke in WCh history ;)

Nonsense. The combination of Lanisek, the girl who won a medal in sprint and this medal in team sprint is a far bigger fluke. A medal in women’s ski jumping was not a shock, but the other 3 medals were surprising to say the least. Also crazy that Slovenia has 2 medals in women’s cross country while Russia/Finland have 0 and Norway also only has 2.

Funny to see the German coach and media acting as if the results so far were mostly down to bad luck ...

German cross country is in a pathetic state and there are no excuses when even nations like Slovenia or Switzerland can win medals. I have no problem with Germany being bad, but the waste of tax payer money is a disgrace.

This is some clueless design, isn't it?

Don't they know that country codes are put next to flags? It's the whole point of using them, to make flags more recognizible to everyone. Putting them next to names is just ridiculous...

Who could guess that RSF is the code for RSF?

You probably don't follow cross country much? Lampic has 6 World Cup podiums to her name which is quite a lot given how deep Norway and Sweden are in women's sprint. Just because you seemingly don't pay attention to anyone beside Norway, Sweden and Germany it doesn't mean it's always a fluke. Besides Slovenia also won a silver medal in Seefeld in this event which you probably don't realize either :p

It's so strange that the only teams that were on podium in both team sprint races in the season are again on the podium.

Looking at earlier in the season, USA is kind of disappointing and of course Norway is definitely missing, but other than that it's a fairly unsurprising result today. Not often you see an expected result while still having had a fun final :p

Agreed, other than Russia and Norway and the US not performing at their best it was completely expected. A bit like the result in men’s ski jumping, where it was the expected result apart from Granerud and Eisenbichler and Stoch not winning a medal. Also very Good point to bring up earlier results when we only had two previous team sprints and in neither of them all the top teams competed.

Yes, especially because in neither of the team sprints all of the top teams competed. Please inform yourself next time before clowning around. Thanks!

I definitely don’t follow cross country, but I was very well aware of previous results and I was also aware of the fact that

a) Results in the season usually don’t really matter in sprint, because the top Norwegian/Swedish athletes barely bother

b) Thanks to covid Sweden and especially Norway skipped a lot of competitions

Please inform yourself next time before clowning around. Thanks!

Also: In 2019 it was a classical sprint, not freestyle.

Also: Just because someone won a medal 2 years ago, doesn’t mean shit for their chances this year. If Peier would have won a medal in ski jumping, you wouldn’t have called it a surprise, because he won one 2 years ago? What kind of nonsensical logical is this, especially when it isn’t even the same team for Slovenia this year?

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
