In really we have the lowest ranking of the group :p

Yeah but hockey rankings are pretty useless to determine current form. I remember we played Italy in World League last year (Olympic qualifiers) and your team was decent.

Well, we're approaching the end of world league round 2 and today we'll have the last qualified teams from men's tournament 3 (very likely :CAN & :JPN ).

Today also starts the last women's tournament for this round in Vancouver, Canada. Possibly the closest one too: :IND:CAN:CHI:BLR or even :URU have potential to qualify here, but there are only two places available for the next round (except for :IND who could finish 3rd and still qualify for the next round due to ranking). Really, really close level between these teams.

Men's World league semifinals final distribution:

Tournament 1: :ARG:NED:IND:ENG:PAK:KOR:CAN:MAS:CHN:SCO

Tournament 2: :AUS:GER:BEL:NZL:ESP:RSA:IRL:FRA:JPN:EGY

In theory, top 8 from each tournament should qualify for the world cup. Which means, the last 2 will miss out in both.

All world league semifinals distribution and groups confirmed:

Men's World League

Tournament 1 - London

Group A :ARG :ENG :KOR :MAS :CHN

Group B :NED :IND :PAK :CAN :SCO

Tournament 2 - Johannesburg

Group A :AUS :NZL :ESP :JPN :FRA

Group B :GER :BEL :RSA :IRL :EGY

Women's World League

Tournament 1 - Brussels

Group A :NED :CHN :KOR :ITA :SCO

Group B :AUS :NZL :BEL :ESP :MAS

Tournament 2 - Johannesburg

Group A :ENG :GER :JPN :IRL :POL

Group B :ARG :USA :RSA :IND :CHI

I want Chile (W) to qualify for world cup but unfortunately they didn't get a good group. However, unlike previous rounds there aren't shoot-outs to break ties in pool stage games, so we may be able to help them by scoring a few extra goals past South Africa or India ... :jeje:

Great group for :POL women - :ENG and :GER are too good, but with :JPN and :IRL we should fight for places 3-4. And I think that even 8th place will be enough to qualify for World Champs in London (I suppose all continental champions and host, England, will take place, that would give them quota from World League).

Today is Quarterfinals day, teams that win qualify for WC (but anyway all 8 teams will likely end up qualifying at the end).

:ARG beats :PAK to become the 1st team to qualify for world cup:clap:

And after that :IND lost to :MAS :yikes:

    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
