The 'instantly guaranteed' isn't really the case yet though, first he'll have to get under 300 points at the world championships next month. They should have put it at 400, because otherwise it just depends too much on a single race. The only good thing is that the interval start race will be held in the freestyle technique. No problems for the South American big three and the likes of Iran, Bolivia or last time even Bermuda wouldn't have had a problem. I do agree with your main point, but 300 points is not that terrible and impossible for skiers of a decent level even in classic (remember the qualifying race counts too).
